p.s. the timing of my BC was completely driven by the frustration i felt after a failed attempt over what i now know to be "the 2 strand twist" coincidence maybe?
lol. i'm just saying! i'm sure that you will be able to make the decision that is best for you
THANKS FOR THE COMPLIMENT. HOW LONG DID YOU TRANSITION FOR?
Sorry its taken so long for me to respond, but i transitioned for about 5 months~
i actually did so before learning about CurlyNikki or the online community for hair care &&& i'm so glad I've found it now. I feel as though I've got a lot of catching up to do and so much to learn!!!
---> looking forward to twist out results
Re: IntelligentBeauty;-)
OK, OK I get the point. Everything is fixed. So I am back in business...lol.
So here they are:
First the twist out (very disappointing, not happy with that result at all)
Now, I thought I took a pic of my hair at Christmas, but I guess not. I just took the twist out and put it in a french roll and that was Christmas.
Next, this is after my overnight henna treatment and the style was braids:
My husband thought my braids looked busted and I had to agree. So my braids the next day turned into a braid out. The ends were so shabby so I tucked them in a reverse roll.

The "Rosa Parks" roll! Love it! It is so glamourous and sophisticated!!! I definitely need to try that! How long did it take and how exactly did you do it?

I like the rolls too. I want to try henna but it looks too messy. I'm not sure if I want to go through all that.

Lynnie...I thought the same thing, esp. since people were saying to lay down newspaper and such. I make my mixture thick so that it doesn't drip at ALL! The benefits definitely outweight the cons in the process, IMO.

Krenea - How long have you been using it? Are you using it to color your hair?

Re: IntelligentBeauty;-)
I've been using henna since September I think. I started out doing henna twice per month, but now henna every 30 days or so. I'm doing it to condition my hair and color my grey hair. It has made my hair stronger and thicker, for sure. I'll post a more recent avatar this weekend when I do my twist out for a party...At least I hope to...I've been promising updated pictures, but my camera's on it's last leg and my computer likes to play games, too. If you decide to try henna, be sure to get the super-sifted, pure henna: www.mehandi.com is what I've always used per Curly Nikki's recommendation!

Does the henna cover the grays well? I see that you use to henna often. Your hair looks nice, I like the reverse roll (good way to cover permed ends)

My gray hairs are now a reddish/brown color now and look like highlights. I think I may have a close-up of this in the Hair Steamers thread...

Thanks for the compliments ladies!!
Don't be intimidated Sweet!! It really is not that serious. I also make my mixture thick so there are no DRIPS!!!
I apply the henna mix in the shower after my shampoo. I dont worry about it being all over me or the tub because as soon as I am done I just rinse off the excess. I use gloves at the application and at the rinse.

@ Freestyle, my braids took about 1 and half hours, but the roll was like 10 minutes. The "ROSA PARKS ROLL" was actually an accident. I was just trying to hide those relaxed ends and that was the result. If I new I was going to do that I probably wouldn't have done so many braids that took so long. I will do roll again (when the baby is asleep) and take a pic step by step. But it is really simple just twist the sides then the back. My hair was so moistured from the henna, oil rinse, and whipped shea mixture that I didn't need to apply anymore product.

This one is for you girl...lol
First I braided my hair individually as a 3 strand braid on wet hair. (I will use big sections next time, it would be faster.)
Second, I used these tools...LOL:
COMB AND ABOUT 3 HAIR PINS AND USE THE WHIPPED SHEA TO COAT MY HANDS AS I SCULPT THE HAIR IN PLACE
Next, I flat twisted one side at a time:
Then rolled the back up and stuck the comb in it:
This is the end product:
You also do all kind of cool styles in the front and on the sides. You can do 2 or 3 flat twist into the roll in the back. Or do bantu knots in the front and the roll on the sides and back. That would be pretty. I will be experimenting with this style for a while. Low mantiantance and quick and easy. LOVE IT!!!

I love that style. I used to do something similar when I was transitioning. Definitely easy and low maintenance!

Great accident hairdo! I love that you put in an accessory. I will definitely try the braid out roll. Thanks for the step by step instructions with pics.

You dont have to put pics. You can just let us know what you are doing to your hair...share what products you use and your regimen.

Thanks Chrs. I am going to have alot of fun with this one. I was so frustrated with the relaxed ends. I was even thinking of BC for the New Year but with this style and the variations I have in mind, I should be good until my date of the BC.

Re: IntelligentBeauty;-)
Thanks for the tutorial IntelligentBeauty! I truly appreciate it! If you wear the "Rosa Parks" roll for more than a day, would it be necessary to retwist/rebraid nightly to keep the hair stretched you think?

Re: IntelligentBeauty;-)
Well, I actually untwist at night and moisture and seal, especially the edges and tie down with a scarf and sleep on a satin pillow. I do not think rebraiding is necessary. I do retwist in the morning once I moisture and seal again. The hair will stretch everytime you retwist in the morning so you should be ok. But if you do twist at night and tie down, you may or may not have to retwist depending on how you sleep...lol. But moisture your edges and tie down then you can use a satin bonnet or scarf over the rest.
