Maybe not a relaxer but a texturizer Empty Maybe not a relaxer but a texturizer

Post by missmoriah 26th October 2010, 3:50 pm

I am getting so fed up. At times I love my hair and then seconds later I will hate it. To make a long story short I am thinking about getting a texturizer or maybe even relaxing it and getting it cut into a style. I just really don't know any more. Tomorrow is my one year anniversary and I am thinking that if I dont relax then maybe I will just get my natural hair shaped up our cut. Then i started thinking who could i go to to get it cut? many salons dont know what to do with natural hair and now that i live in los angeles its going to be even harder. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Give yourself enough time to REALLY think about what you are doing. I've been wearing my natural hair for two years now and I can honestly say there were days, and weeks when I would get fed up! I just saw it as bad hair days or bad moods and waited till it passed. I am so glad I didn't do anything so drastic as relaxing becuase I would have instantly regretted it.

What you choose to do is your decision but just make sure you are not just having a bad hair day or in just a bad or hormonal mood. Relaxing or even texturizing is chemically altering your hair. Go to a salon and get it flat-ironed and rock the straight look for awhile for change. That may be all you really need.

If you can not find a stylist, although there should be at least one in LA, go to a barber shop and get it shaped. Tell the barber to use scissors instead of the clippers, so that they will not take too much off.

I understand what you are going through. I have good days and bad days. The main thing that keeps me going in my post transition stage, is the good professional cut and shape I got when I BC'd. A good cut and shape is your hair foundation.

It is your decision, but I don't think that you should throw away a year of natural grow by relaxing or texturizing.

Hey Miss Moriah! I thought we were just loving up on your hair not long ago? What has changed? Maybe you need to wear it straight for a few days. I did that a few times when my hair was shorter. Heck, I just did it this past weekend. I think you should take your time but ultimately it's your decision to make of course. I don't know your reasons for going natural but maybe you have met the goal you set out to achieve... And if that's the case- you can decide from there. I wish you hair happiness either way!

Tomorrow is my one year anniversary

sonance & Naturally Esq are correct.

Don't do anything rash. I would even go so far as to say don't do anything hair related tomorrow.(see a movie, buy some shoes, get a massage etc.) Don't let your frustration set you up for disappointment.

The same relaxer, texturizer. or haircut that's available on day 365 will be available to you on day 366.

Rgardless of your decision, you should spend some time identifying the style you want and take the time to find a salon. You're in LA, everybody out there ain"t a star yet(lol) and everybody ain't doing their own hair, so there have to be some affordable salons.

Let's focus on the days that you love your hair. You didn't just name your blog "lovemycurlsxo" for nothing.

Only you know how much the hair you have grown in the past year means to you, so Do You & Be happy!

Below is the link to the LA Meetups. Maybe they have some information on local salons: http://www.curlynikki.forumotion.com/curly-meet-ups-f12/la-meet-up-t6250-75.htm

Thanks to all of you that responded. I may not do the relaxer and may just get it shaped up to where its faded out on the sides and in back. I want something that has a style to where its not a just a fro of curliness. Smile I have just been tired of only wearing wash n go's and big hair. i want something chic that is cool and trendy so I am thinking a hair cut or shape up is in my near future.

Hi missmoriah

Girl...I know how you feel. I've never wanted to relax, but I've gotten frustrated and a little bored...so I put my hair away. You know braids...2 strand flat twists...half wigs. However, I wore braids for 2 months and that gave me a greater appreciation for my hair. I actually missed it...so my 1 year anniversary is Sunday. I don't have the desire to blow-out of straighten, (just yet) so I'm going to put my hair away again for 6 weeks. I am in need of a trim real bad, and more that I want may have to come off to get the healthy hair I need. So I guess I'll wear protective styles during the colder months.

I hope you hang in here with us!! I think a trendy cut will look cute on you.
