Hey mstokes...
This beauty supply store here in Houston right off of Westheimer near Gessner. I thought she had NYX palettes..but I ended up with this. Something to get me started while I learn.
Will you be returning anytime soon? If so, I can give you the number...

You did good with the pink and grey eye and I don't think the pink color is too loud. Use a stiff flat brush to apply your apply shadow on the lid and the blending brush to blend. I couldn't tell if one of the brushes in your pic was a flat brush but here is an example
http://www.eyeslipsface.com/elf/brushes/brushes_and_applicators/eye_shadow_brush
This e.l.f. brush is sold at Target for a dollar and also dollar general and I love it for applying eyeshadow.
Here is a link for eyeshadow application for beginners:

KC....thank you soooo much for the videos and the web page. THAT has really been a big help. I was on ELF's site last night while I was waiting for Harry Potter (the movie) to start, and before I knew it I had $49 worth of stuff in my cart. I logged off quickly...LOL
I am not going to spend tons of money until I figure out how to apply this eyeshadow; however, I will get the brush you recommened. I think that will help me a lot. I was even able to find video's on how to do your eyebrows....I was so suprised to learn that I wasn't really doing mine right.
The video's are awesome...tried a few techniques from the videos's this morning. Turned out kinda nice...I'm wearing a coral and green today..I have on a green sweater. The thing is..how do you know what colors to use? It is trial and error? Is there a color book? I'm going to MAC today after work to ask a lot of questions. I hope they have patience with me, cause they tend to lose interest sometimes if you're not spending money...lol
Thanks again for the information!! I'm kinda having fun...I even organized my vanity. A friend gave me one last year. I didn't think I would need it, but I'm glad I have it now!!!

Hey KNH,
You're welcome! You can pretty much use any colors you want when using eyeshadow. There is no color book as far as I know (lol). There are some vids out there which show colors that go good with eyecolor and that also look good on women of color.
I think its pretty much trial and error to find which colors look really good on you. Some eyeshadow colors just won't look great on you but others will really compliment your eyes and skintone. You can choose based on what your're wearing, your accessories, earrings or scarf.

I really like the perfume sample it's called Bliss! Nice and clean smell! I am going to try the Lorac eye primer today. I think that is what I am missing a good base so the colors show up!

I'm trying y'all! I think I need to put a base on because even with the primer I cat get the colors to show up right. Now should a base be the same color I am? Darker? What? Talk to me beauties!

Re: Makeup - Rock & Republic Sale $7 for $28 Eyeshadows!!!
@ Sweet - I use both a primer and a base together. You can use a base the same color as your skintone but I think your base should be lighter if you really want the colors to pop. I have one that is a lighter color than my skintone and my colors always show up bright. Also if you really want the colors to pop you can use a white base which will really make the colors bright. Don't worry because the eyeshadows will cover the white color of the base.
@ Brandi - I've ordered from cherryculture and the products come with bubblewrap around them to make sure they don't break during shipment.

Hey KC....
I didn't make it to MAC for my Q&A session, but I have to agree with you it will be trial and error for a minute. I try to pick colors from what I'm wearing and see how that works for me!

Yes ma'am beginner that I am!! lol I got your warning...I really want to order either the NYX or Coastal Scents palette so bad I don't know what to do. Then I made the mistake of visiting MAC's website....I'm going to need some help real bad!! I wanted everything I saw on MAC's site!!
So where can I find a $10 brush set...I don't remember seeing that on the site! hmmmmm
Anyway...the grey was an accident; just beginner luck!! LOL

WOW Sweet....
That's a nice stash you've got there. I get e-mails from Sephora all the time, but I don't ever order online. I usually go in the store, but then when I get in there I get real confused...too much stuff in one place. lol

Knh thank you! I used the Lorac sample this time, but I have using one from bare escentuals. I think I am going to order the UD one you all rave about! I saw a pack with different shades of primer. Yes I was the same with Sephora, prior to this I only went for the perfume selection. Now I am on the website daily! Lol

So then would you use a primer and a base, or one or the other?? I don't think she answered that. I use the Urban Decay Primer but my colors still don't show up as well as I'd like them to. Maybe I'm not using enough of it?? hmmm...

from every thing I have watched you can do both. I haven't tried the UD yet..and I plan to try my concealed as a base to see if that helps!mstokes2008 wrote:sweetdrk1 wrote:ok I am at it again...lol on YT when I should be cleaning. Re: Makeup - Rock & Republic Sale $7 for $28 Eyeshadows!!!
@ Mstokes - I use a primer and base together. I have the UDPP and I use different cream bases on top of the primer. If you want the colors to show up brighter you may have to use a white base or a cream base which is similar to the color of eyeshadow you're using.

I got my UD primer now! I got the sample pack with the four different shades

Hey ladies!! Well this question may have been asked but... Is there really a difference between a base and a primer? and if so can you tell a big difference in using both vs. just using a primer alone. And this is off subject but why is it that when I walk into a place and my face is all done up (plus i have no hair on my head) do i get these mean looks as if i have done something wrong?? does this happen to you ladies?
