Re: BindyMac's Hair
Yeah, it'd be nice to have a pair of extra hands. My brother offered to help me, but I don't think he knew what he was offering to do! So I kindly declined his offer.

Re: BindyMac's Hair
Morning ya'll. It's day three, and my hair is still looking pretty good. Not as frizzy as the last time I did my twists.
I gotta thank all of you again for the advice and tips. I haven't had the chance to try out the shampoo thing but I'm definitely looking forward to it.

My curls are still in pretty decent shape! I haven't washed my hair since I put it in twists! I think I'll wash it today though. Or not.

So...did you wash? Your twists are nice! How's your scalp? Any relief from the flakes?

Hey!
It's late so it's going to be a quick post. I have not washed my hair yet, but I just bought some Sauve shampoo and a Denman (is that the right term?) detangling brush. I'm going to wash my hair tonight and post picks tonight.
Thanks you Reese and dear god, those earrings! You look fabulous!

Re: BindyMac's Hair
I washed my hair and took out most of the twists and shampooed my scalp. I didn't comb through my hair so I can't talk about the Denman brush yet, but hopefully I'll do that tomorrow, along with trimming my edges.
The shampoo thing....worked? There are less flakes than before, but it still looks and feels like there's a thin film of junk covering my scalp. I'm thinking of doing something stronger, like a baking soda wash, just to really clear my scalp, and then using the shampoo once in a while, depending on how often I'll need it.
It's ridiculous - nearly one year being natural, and I still got a lot to learn. But I'm not too mad about that.
So the shampoo thing I'll definitely be using because I think it did help a bit. Thank you so much for suggesting that.
Oh, and I am so happy I took out my twists! I missed seeing my hair! If I could hug it, I would! It's kinda frizzy and messy because I don't have the patience to detangle it. I might do that tomorrow morning or just wrap a scarf around my head.
I kind of have a temporary name for my hair. I call her Squarehead...because when I'm done doing everything to my hair, it takes on a square shape (genius, I know). I'm trying not to get too attached to the name 'cuz her shape may change, but I could not resist crying out "I missed you Squarehead!" when I looked at myself in the mirror.

LOL, I feel the same way. Saturday cannot get here fast enough.
Hello my Fro!
So I untangled my hair and used the Denman brush - I like it! And I know this sounds crazy, but I swear my hair grew! Before, it reached the tip of my nose. Now, the top of my top lip! Woot!
But of course, today is the day I'll be trimming my edges, so I might lose a tiny bit of length.

You are gonna make me buy a Denman brush! What did you like about it? As for the hair growth...hey it could happen! Send some of that quick growth this way!

Re: BindyMac's Hair
Hey Hey,
I washed my hair, shampooed the scalp, and attempted to twist them. I got tired though so I sectioned my hair, quickly twisted them, and pinned them up to my head.
So I got to use the Denman brush again. I read somewhere on the forums that it might be best to detangle my hair first with a normal comb, condition my hair, and then use the Denman brush to distribute the conditioner. That brush glides through my hair - until I get to the ends. I think that's my fault though, my ends are horrible and I had to trim a bit today.
I can't believe how thick my hair is! And I want this to get longer? Lol.

That's exactly how I feel sometimes. You wonder if you can handle more, I guess as it grows we get trained.

Re: BindyMac's Hair
Another reason why I love my Denman brush:
So I conditioned my hair with coconut oil and then used the Denman brush to evenly distributed the conditioner, and then I twisted my hair. Thanks to that, my twists are really, really soft. They were soft before, but now it just reached a whole new level of softness, I can't even describe!
I'm going to finish twisting my hair today, and I will keep them in until....the 26th. That's my goal.

see I too don't know how long I will let my hair get for fear of the work involved with maintaining it!!! I thought I was alone...

You learn it as it grows but I like you with short hair! I think it compliments you very nicely!
Re: BindyMac's Hair
I started twisting my hair three days ago - and I'm finally done! They are so tiny, I'm afraid to take them out. I'm going to keep them in until the 26th, and if I can I'll do another protective style before I leave to visit my friends on the East Coast. I'm going to be there for a week, and I don't want to mess with my hair.

Re: BindyMac's Hair
Nothing new with my hair today. Sorry - no pics! But it looks cute.
And I think....that I got all of my hair. No thin strands of hair floating around in the back, like they usually do...because I found those strands yesterday and quickly wrapped them around the closest twist.

Pictures of my twists! I think this is the best job I've done so far.
Today I may experiment with pinning it up or something like that.

It's Been a Full Year Since My BC! (Almost)
Last year, as a Christmas present to myself, I bought a pair of shears, locked myself in the bathroom, and cut my hair. I remember laughing and going, "Oh my god!" My brother laughed even harder when I stepped out. I think my Dad was too scared of angering me to say what he really felt about my hair.
A few months later, my friend took a photo of me and my new hair.
A lot of things influenced my decision. I had never really like caring for my hair. I hated going to the salon. And I saw so many people with gorgeous, natural hair and I hope to rock my hair like they did. I was already growing out my relaxer at the time, so I decided to cut off the damaged hair and leave the curls. At the time I thought it would be easier to go natural (in many ways it is, but you still have to dedicate a lot of time and care). And I wanted to try something new.
Now a year later, I'm still learning about my hair. I'm really enjoying it and I'm really excited to see how my hair will look in the future. I feel much more confident about my body and myself, though I know I still have my insecurities and I have to work on them.
But today, I am happy to show off my hair!
And I want to show you what my hair used to look like. The pictures are very small, but hopefully they give you an idea.
My hair in 8th grade. I believe I was growing out some highlights and that night it probably was relaxed, and I probably used a curling iron.
I am laughing as I type: This was taken last year, a few months before the BC. I'm pretty sure that my hair is tied back in a ponytail and covered with a brown scarf.
