Re: Yarn Braids (again)!
Thank you all! I haven't been updating much since I've been so busy trying to get ready to go back to school. I've been out trying to spend time with family and high school friends before we all head our seperate ways again. I am on twitter often though if you would like to catch me on there. I tweet #naturalhair a lot! @GodGivenNatural
I was in a BSS (one that I never shop in) looking for some more Fantasia IC gel to take back to school but they didn't have the one with Olive Oil. As a matter of fact, they didn't have any of the products I use on my hair....? I picked up some Long Aid gel w/Aloe Vera (just a small jar) to try out as a back up to my Fantasia IC. I will try to do a quick review on that by Friday.
I will do a special update for my one month post though and the end of the 4 week regimen.

How was the Long Aid activator gel with aloe?
Sorry this response is extremely late!
But i love it. I use it more for moisture than anything else. It defines my curls as well but if you use too much, it can be a bit greasy so a little goes a long way with it. It adds great shine as well.
Update...first twist/twistout

I have not updated my journal in a LONG time.
School has me very busy...my course load this semester is Spanish, History of Theater, Understanding Art, and two social work courses. The first 3 are test heavy and the last two are paper heavy so I'm always studying for a test or writing a paper.
My hair is growing great and I am in love with it. I have no desire to go back to relaxed. I just did my first set of twists and my first twist out. I posted some pics in the "stylin' and profilin' '' and my avatar is a pic from my first twist out as well. At the end of the TWA challenge I will post pics from before the challenge and recent pics to measure my growth. I am still using the same products, only because they work for the time being and I don't really have the money to experiment right now. I have not washed my hair in a while so I will be pre-pooing, shampooing, deep conditioning and detangling tomorrow. I'll wear it out for the rest of the weekend and probably re-twist monday or tuesday.
I've received a very positive response from people on campus about going natural, and of course, I've had to listen to the "My hair isn't good enough to go natural" and the "I'm not that brave" speeches. I just try to make sure people see the positives in it and realize that it does take patience and commitment, but is a very rewarding experience.
My boyfriend was in love with my twists!
Re: Yarn Braids (again)!
Ok so I planned to wash/condition, blah blah blah blah today but my 2nd day hair is just too cute! I can't wash it out yet. So I think I will be doing all of that monday.

Hey Ebbz!
Can I be very demanding and ask for some pics? We haven't seen your hair progress in ages!

Re: Yarn Braids (again)!
I twisted my hair up again yesterday...this time I used my whipped shea butter mixture (unrefined shea butter, suave conditioner and oils). The shea butter mix doesn't hold as good as the beeswax, but my hair still feels soft and moisturized. I've notice that I need to give my ends some TLC, so I will be doing some overtime trying to keep them moisturized and sealed while the twists are in and then doing a DC when I take them out. My goal is to leave them in until Friday and then wear the twistout for the weekend, and co wash and DC on sunday.
I've also been looking in to yarn braids. I loved BlackOnyx77's yarn braids on youtube and I really want to try them. It such a cheap, yet long lasting protective style. I already have kinky twist hair though, so I might just wear kinky twists for a few weeks and then try the yarn braids.
Funny Story: My grandmother, who has always had a texturizer, curl kit, jheri curl and very short hair...is now completely natural because of her battle with breast cancer a few years ago. She is a proud survivor and rocks her short natural hair with no chemicals/kits...just black dye. She asked me yesterday what I called my hairstyle and I said "twists". She said "Oh! Well I have the brush and go myself." I was rolling on the floor laughing! I thought it was too funny. I love my grandma

Thanks ladies.
@mstokes....it depends on the how you braid them. combine your hair with two strands of yarn instead of one when you get close to the ends of it and it'll camouflage your natural ends into the yarn. it won't look perfect, but it definitely helps.
I'll post some more pics once I start experimenting with styles.

Re: Yarn Braids (again)!
Quick Update...I'm on my way out the door to the library. I had so much fun this weekend, I forgot about school work.
Loving my yarn braids. They are very low maintenance. I plan to wash them next weekend. I heard it takes a day for them to dry and I had plans all weekend, so I couldn't do it. I have about a half inch of new growth already and I'm very excited about that. I've been thinking about flat ironing my hair for the first time when I take these out, since I'm looking for a new flat iron right now, but I'm still on the fence, because I want to keep protective styling.
Maybe I'll just have it flat ironed for a week...that shouldn't hurt.
I'm also on a search for new beanies but every store I go into, I can't find any or they cost too much money.

I know Forever 21 and Rue 21 usually have really really good deals on theres. I've picked up some at Rue 21 for .50 before!
I wish I had your dedication, I'm currently snatching my yarn braids down as I'm typing this. they were only in for a week. But it just was not working for me lol. Maybe I'll try again in a few weeks. What kind of styles are you doing with yours??

Re: Yarn Braids (again)!
I did some big twists in the front with a ponytail for a few days. Most of the time they are either up in a high bun or I have half up in a ponytail and the rest down. Haven't had much time to try anything else. I would love to wear them all down and out, but I keep playing in them and messing with my new growth when I do that.
I started to get tired of mine for a few days but I remembered how long it took me to put them in and how easy it is to get up and go in the morning and I fell in love with them again. I've also gotten many compliments on them which helps to. Hopefully you'll try them again. lol
