My Hair Journey (Me and My Hair)
My “Hair” Story
Hey Ladies!!
So, I finally decided I would join the fun of keeping a hair journal online. I read and admired the journals of the ladies from the BnB Challenge and decided that maybe it was time for me to start my own. So….I will let you ladies in on my hair journey up until this point.
Well, I got my first relaxer at 12 yrs old after begging my mom and that’s when my hair journey went down hill!!! My hair was thin and I was not unhappy at all and felt that my hair was not reaching its full potential of being HEALTHY! I would faithfully have to go the beauty salon EVERY 5 weeks to get a relaxer and I was just tired of spending that kind of money and not being happy with how my hair looked. The only time I loved my hair was when it was in a short pixie cut!
So, near the end of 2008 I started my online search of going natural! I was shocked by all the information I found and how versatile natural hair really is. I let my husband know that I wanted to go natural and he was supportive as well as my friends and family.
I transitioned for 3 months, my goal was to go at least 8 months…but that didn’t happen I was too anxious to see what my hair would look like! On July 28, 2009 I did by BC!!!!!!!! In the beginning I had to get use to seeing myself with my natural hair and finding the right products that would work for me. My husband I think was more shocked than anybody else and it had to grow on him..now he loves it!! So, here I am still learning about my hair, but I can honestly say I LOVE MY HAIR!!! I appreciate site like CN, MotownGirl.com, and you tube videos b/c there were really my saving grace for understanding that not every product will give you the same results that it gives others. However, I had to find the right products that work for me!

BTW you don't have to call me by my screen name..Heather is cool!

Hey Heather! Welcome to the block. Your hair is looking awesome. It took my husband a while to get used to my bc also. We discussed it for months before I finally did it. But after they get to see all the lovely curlies sprouting on our heads, they come around don't they? Anywho- your one year anniversary is fast approaching!

MamaGA is cool!!! lol
Favorite Products: I LOVE Herbal Essences' Totally Twisted and Hello Hydration for co-washing and detangling; To twist: I use so many different things but I am sticking to Proclaim setting lotion, water, and aloe vera gel mixed together. Moisturizers: ORS Olive Oil; whipped shea butter. I am a bit of product junkie I am really trying to stop!
Favorite Styles: Usually I do flat twists and wear a twist out. Anytime I try something new it turns out like crap! lol So I stick to what works!
Hair Goal: Just maintain healthy hair and hopefully get to APL (crossing my fingers and eyes)! lol
Summer plans: I may get braids not sure b/c I sweat in my hair and I know I will eventually look like a fur ball if I do something outside.

welcome to block. I think alot of us have lerk around for a while before we jumped in. Here on curlstreet I have read alot of different things to treat Drama (my hair name). Drama needs to grow to get that full look that i am longing for. I wish I had the guts to BC in 3 months I so wanted to but was not ready at all.

Re: My Hair Journey (Me and My Hair)
Soooooooooo today..I wore a twist out that I had from flat twists (that's my go to style). I am lucky enough to work from home 4 days a week and Wednesday's are my day to go into the office unless I have to go in on another day. Generally I was wash, deep condition, and style on Sundays and keep it in flat twists until Wednesday then I just re-twist on Wed. nights.
I used my whipped shea butter to un-ravel my twists and then pinned up my sides. This is the usual style I rock!
