Hey AL!!! I was in the neighborhood so I decided to swing by and check you out!! Your son is SOOOOOO CUTE!!!! He looks like a miniature man, he's adorable!! Also, those twists looked very nice.....I'm still working on my flat twisting skills, I'm not on your level yet. I hope to get there soon though.

Re: AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A...
Nothing new in hair news...still twisted up although I did take the last ones down, re-moisturized with the Kimmaytube inspired leave in & Qhemets hydrating balm w/ a little heavy cream and then retwisted. Loving it and I'm definitely noticing growth which is ALWAYS good.
I've been contemplating this loc journey that I will embark on later this year and I'm trying to decide on how I will have them started. I'm thinking two strand twists but I've also seen them done with braids and coils. With the length that I expect to have by December I'm thinking tst's will probably be best. I'll keep you ladies updated on my other contemplations which include size and maybe even some color

Hey QB! Thanks for visiting. I think its your first time if I'm not mistaken. I'm not sure if I've been to your place yet either. Anyway, thanks for the love for my little man. OMG, he's so big and I don't know where the time went. Honey, I had to figure this two strand flat twisting thing out because my cornrows are straight garbage lol.
Re: AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A...
I started my hubby's locs with TSTs and as his hair loc'ed you couldn't even tell it was the TST method - that is what I liked the most about it. Plus they were so much easier for me to to and less time consuming than coils or palm rolling
Re: AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A...
Interesting. I didn't know men started theirs with TSTs. It worked because your hubby has a nice head of locs. The comb coils I did on Stevens hair actually didn't take long to do initially but the crown took a while to loc up and I'm sure its because they were coils. When he did his first wash they basically came a loose. He had that dandruff issue then so he had me wash it like I was trying to rub his scalp off the first time.
Re: AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A...
DH had about 6 inches of hair when he started so even TST took longer than I liked. He has (had) that dandruff issue also until I stopped him from using shampoo. I think the locs made it difficult for him to rinse properly and his scalp was reacting to shampoo residue. Now he has no issue and his hair smells great. I just use ACV and water.
I am actually going to dye his hair because all the white bulbs from the shed hairs are showing - he sheds a lot like I do.

Re: AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A...
You're probably right about your hubbys dandruff culprit. What do you use to retwist his?
Stevens scalp is so healthy now. I look at all the time and tell him, " I did that!" lol He hasn't ACV rinsed in a while but we do use a tea tree oil shampoo on his locs ever so often and hot oil treatments. He's on no particular schedule as far as getting them retwisted, shampoo'd,etc. It's a whenever he feels like it type of thing and he hates when his locs are freshly done. He said they look too neat and I pick on him calling him a pretty boy. (He has model type cheek bones) I love seeing the grid. He's decided that once they are longer(not exactly sure how long) he's going to stop getting them retwisted. Not if I have anything to say about it. He said, "Damian Marley" doesn't get his retwisted and you like his" lol he's a trip.

I cooked breakfast. I had planned to take him out to dinner but we didn't make it that day. We visited his family and spent time with the new baby. I'll probably take him out this weekend for dinner even though my cooking is better than any restaurant lol
In other news, my hair is twisted up as of Tuesday and I hope to keep it in until Sunday. I'm having itchy scalp issues and I applied my JBCO with Rosemary & Peppermint oil but it only helps temporarily so I may add a few drops of tea tree oil.
Lastly, a few shots from our trip to the lake a couple weeks ago
He was having a crazy fro day. After taking him out of his carseat his hair is always wild.
I don't know what we were doing here lol
awww what a beautiful family!!! and I love that flat twist style!!!

I switch from palm rolling to the latch-hook method so I don't have to use anything to hold his hair anymore. I will used the touch up time to oil his scalp because although the mega sized flakes stopped he does have dry scalp.
I want to do hot oil treatments so you will have to fill me in on this. I have done something like a pre-poo before and it worked out great. I applied olive oil to the ends (the last 6-8 inches) and had him just shampoo that section lightly. However I would like to do his entire head.
LOL @ "Damian Marley" doesn't get his retwisted and you like his"
That is funny!
Re: AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A...
Oh yeah, you did tell me about the latch hook method before. I bought the hook and never used it. I've seen some folks on youtube using paper clips that they've unbent. I'm going to have to look into that again. It would keep him from wanting to use my stuff on his hair lol.
For his hot oil treatments we honestly use whatever oil we have at the time as the primary base oil so that could be olive oil, almond oil, avocado oil, grapeseed, etc. and then we just add Rosemary, Peppermint, and a dab of tea tree although I'm sure we'd know if he had mold or bacteria growing in them. Its just for good measure. I warm it up in a glass jar by sitting it in water that I boil in the hot pot. After its warm I just apply it to his hair in sections including his scalp and then make him wear a plastic cap for at least an hour but sometimes he'll fall asleep with it in so he gets an extra 2 or 3 hours of treatment. Follow that with a light shampoo and then get to twisting. HTH.

Its a blah blah blah day. Still wearing twists. {{YAWN}} Ready for the weekend! That is all...Think I'll watch season 2 of House and fold laundry Lata curlies!
Re: AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A...
Theres an 11 month old in my house banging on the walls and talking to someone that I can't see. He's so funny to watch & he gets a kick out of me having hiccups. Apparently they are funnier than being tickled.

Re: AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A...
hey Shee.
I did a henna treatment today. Last night I prepood with olive oil and amla oil(<--verdicts still out on this). I left the henna on for a couple of hours, washed with Giovanni SAS, and then deep conditioned with a mixture of some nearly empty bottles of moisturizing conditioners I needed to finish using up mixed with a little JBCO, and EVOO. I let that sit for a couple more hours. Split my hair down the middle and then spritzed with my horsetail & rosemary EO mix, applied my leave in, and then used Afroveda Curl Define moisturizing butter. I hadn't yet used this without applying Qhemet over it so we'll see how my hair feels tomorrow. I put 4 large flat twists in that I'll take out tomorrow for so I can measure for the BAA challenge. I'm running low on powders so I need to re-up my stash for the hairyuveda challenge.
I'll be going swimming for the first time in years on Saturday for my sons pool party. I'll probably do a treatment on Monday when we get back home. Not sure what though.

Re: AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A...
Hey girl, dropping in to say hello. Little man is growing up! So is your hair: it looks wonderful!
Re: AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A...
So I know its been probably about 2 months since I've had these two Qhemet products but I've just been lazy about typing up my reviews. Sorry...we're getting things in order for our move. So here goes:
I bought this a couple of months back when QB had a sale. I had heard such great things about it both here on CN and Youtube. I'm usually not one to jump on a bandwagon, although many things intrigue me I'm a bit too frugal to just run out and place an order based on heresay. In this case I decided that I needed to splurge and I was due a nice gift since I hadn't bought myself anything in a while...I digress lol
The directions say rub a small amount between palms and apply to wet or dry hair from root to end. I'm more partial to applying moisturizing products to wet hair since I feel its more likely to be absorbed rather than just sit on top of my hair. The consistency of this product is like honey but without the stickiness. When rubbed between my palms it felt as if it began to warm up. Upon initial use I thought maybe I was tripping but it feels like that everytime (to me at least, not sure if that's everyone's experience) and I like it. The ingredients say naturally scented so in all honesty there really isn't a strong smell good or bad which I don't mind at all. The smell is so faint but if I had to say that it smelled like something I would say just a little itsy weensy bit citrusy. (I seriously just smelled this stuff like 15 times to try to come up with that lol). After every cowash, shampoo, ayurvedic treatment, and DC I moisturize with the QBOHHB. My routine is as follows:
I love the consistency of it and a little bit goes a long way which makes the $16 price tag okay with me. While I am only attesting to its use WITH the AOHC I do believe that if I used it on its own I would still love it. In fact I have used a bit on my sons hair and his coils had shine, softness, and moisture even after a wild night of sleep in his crib.
Qhemet Biologics Olive & Honey Hydrating Balm (<---click for Ingredients)
Directions:Rub between palms and thoroughly work a small to moderate amount through dry or slightly damp hair from root to end. Leave in and style.

- Spritz with a horsetail/peppermint/chamomile tea w/Rosemary EO mix.
- Apply Kimmaytubes leave in conditioner mix that I tweaked by using JBCO instead of regular castor oil & EVOO instead of Jojoba Oil ( LOVE THIS MIX LADIES; NO MORE BUSHY ENDS)
- Use a fingertips worth amount of the OHHB; rub it in my hands and then apply all over hair from root to tip focusing on my ends
- Use another fingertip worth amount of the AOHC(I'll get to this later); rub it in my hands and then apply all over hair from root to tip focusing on ends
- Style as usual.
I love the consistency of it and a little bit goes a long way which makes the $16 price tag okay with me. Qhemet Biologics Amla & Olive Heavy Cream (<--Click for Ingredients)
Directions: As a leave-in, evenly distribute a small to moderate amount through damp or dry hair. Also use as a softening and regenerative scalp butter to soften growth and smooth edges and as an overnight deep treatment. (<-- on that last note about using it as an overnight deep treatment...there's no way I would rinse this stuff out the next day lol)
The AOHC is definitely a keeper in my book. This stuff in conjunction with the OHHB is divine. The difference between this review and the aforementioned one is that I have used this alone without the OHHB and its just as moisturizing. I follow the routine I listed above when using this product. The consistency is VERY thick which I love. When I apply it my hair does look white but it disappears/absorbs after donning my silk scarf to bed. I've never experienced any buildup or flakes at all so if you try it don't be weary of the initial white mask. Like the OHHB the scent is very faint but pleasant. Again if I had to say what it smelled liked it would be a slight citrus scent. The ingredients lists an essential oil blend but doesn't say what EOs but either way I think the scent would work for even the pickiest of noses. To show my ends some TLC after a couple days of twisting I will take some of this and apply it to my ends, twirl them around my fingers and wrap my hair up for the night.
Verdict: (5 stars)
The thickness of this product is great for those of use 4a/4b curlies. Its super moisturizing (like no need to moisturize for 3 or 4 days good). If you're wondering if the Kimmaytube inspired leave in is the culprit for the extra days of moisturized hair I was using this prior to making the leave in mix The $16 price tag for this is also worth it because like the OHHB a little goes a long way. I'm hoping this stuff doesn't go bad because I use just that little of it for each moisturizing session.

Koils By Nature Herbal Soothing Peppermint Gel(<--Click for Ingredients)
I only received this a few weeks ago at the NC Natural Hair Expo so I can't give a FULL review on this just yet. I can say that I don't recommend applying to hair in need of washing lol. The night we got back from the expo and Juneteenth festival I decided to retwist my hair and I used just a dab for each two strand twists. My hair the following day was subpar and I attribute that to putting this on top of hair that should have at least been cowashed. I was lazy lol But on my second try this stuff was wonderful.I used it on clean cowashed hair. I love the peppermint smell and feel. I applied a bit to my edges to get rid of some unruly hairs and just a bit to each individual two strand flat twists. I experienced no flakes, dryness, or itchiness which is always a plus. After a few more uses I'll give my final verdict
Verdict:TBA
