Post by AfrikanLatina 14th June 2010, 3:47 pm

In an attempt to implement even more ayurvedic treatments into my routine I've decided to TRY to do one treatment a week. My current regimen already calls for 2 a month so I just need 2 more. I do a henna treatment on the 7th of each month and a shikakai, brahmi, amla treatment on the 21st of each month. So last night I prepood with EVOO & just a little bit of the amla oil I picked up last week. I'm still a little weirded out by the amla oil because of the mineral oil & color additives in it but we'll see. I'm about to do an amla treatment and I'll be back with how it turns out and what style I plan to try. Smile

I also need to figure out what style I am going to do on my hair for the hair expo & Juneteenth festival. I may have to do some pushups to build up my arm strength for a fro hawk. lol My arms always get so tired when I have to do a lot of twists so we shall see. Any suggestions?

I did an amla treatment yesterday mixed with a little bit of orange peel powder. I let it sit for about an hour, maybe a little longer. I then proceeded to wash with my shikakai shampoo bar, acv rinsed(1tsp acv:16oz H2O), DC'd with a mixture of (JBCO, Suave Naturals Apple Conditioner, Rosemary EO, & EVOO)...the end results:

* My hair seemed noticeably darker although it could've been my eyes playing tricks on me
* My hair was super duper uper smuper soft! (You have to watch Sid the Science Kid to get that)
*Practically no shedding which is such a plus

I will do this again next month and then decide if it will be a regular part of the regimen...I think it will Smile

Still determining what I will do with my hair for the weekend but at any rate I'll return with an update on what I do come up with probably Sunday.

I still have no hair style for the weekend so I may just rock a double 2 strand twist "headband" with a twistout. It will all depend on how I feel come tomorrow. I'll probably cowash and then do whatever feels right. I'll be outside for the latter part of Saturday so I'll have to keep that in mind.

In other news my slobber baby has been a bit fussy lately and I'm thinking he's getting some more teeth in. I've decided to wean him off the breast by his 1st birthday so I need him to start taking to food a bit more. He's still a sweet potatoes and avocado lover and has just recently gotten into rice. He'll eat nearly any kind of fruit except bananas but he's still having issues with chewing food and not just swallowing it. I hope that will be rectified when he gets some back teeth in.

We've decided to have a pool party for his first birthday in conjunction with my little cousins birthday. He's one so he won't even remember it but it'll be fun for his bigger cousins and the adults in attendance as well and great opportunities for fun photos. I can't believe my baby is almost 1!! I am sooooooooo looking forward to this fun filled weekend. Tomorrow is the NC Natural Hair Expo & Juneteenth festival and I'm so excited about both events. Sunday is my hunnys first Father's Day and I'm still deciding on what to do for him. He told me to be creative so lets see what I can come up with! Anyway, I'm taking my camera and video camera with me tomorrow to capture all the fun. Be back next week with that! Have a great weekend curlies!

We're leaving the porch light on so if you see any one lurking around our house let us know LOL

Post by AfrikanLatina 19th June 2010, 9:10 pm

Ughhhhhhhhh I'm so sick! Not literally... We(my hunny, my son, and I) went to the NC Natural Hair Expo and saw sooo many beautiful heads of natural hair, natural hair products, accessories and so much more. We got there around 1 and there was a decent sized crowd already. I saw so many things I wanted to buy but because I'm on a budget I only bought a pair of earrings and some gel from Koils by Nature. My hunny bought two books.

Now on to the reason why I'm sick. We were double booked today for both the expo and the Juneteenth festival. We had to drive almost 2 hours to get to the expo and wanted to get back home in time to enjoy the festival. I was only able to catch up with NaturalNixon(don't know if she wants her gov't name out there) for 2.5 seconds. She was rocking a lovely mohawk and looking so cute. The rest of the ladies hadn't made it by the time we needed to leave around 3. Oh but wait, it gets better. We get back home and go straight to the Juneteenth festival only to find nearly no vendors that looked like us, a lineup that didn't really speak to the heart of what Juneteenth represents and a long hike to get to it. We were sadly disappointed. Hubby said it was nothing like this the year before. I saw one table that had some earrings, necklaces, and other nic nacs on it but it all looked SUPER cheap. Now I'm not knocking their hustle but I didn't want anything they had to offer. I say ALL of that to say, we were actually having a good time at the expo(yes, my hunny too) and contemplated on whether we should leave early to get back. We made the wrong decision but we'll live. I really wanted to meet the ladies I hadn't gotten an opportunity to meet before, particulary Chrs! Sad We took a L on this one! I have a little video footage of what it looked like there. I'll get around to uploading it sometime next week.

Awww, so sorry to hear that the Junteenth festival didn't go well. Seems ANY holiday is free reign to make extra money now; the meanings and significance always gets lost in the hustle. Maybe there's another meet up in the future? That way you can recoup your loss. AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A... - Page 33 Icon_smile

Awww...thanks Mika. I expected to be able to support some black owned businesses like I did at the expo. That would have just been the icing on the cake since I really wanted to see the holiday represented like it should have been. I'm okay with people trying to make a buck as long as the true meaning of why we were there was acknowledged. There were cheerleaders performing when we got there. AfrikanLatina ☥ It's A... - Page 33 Icon_eek Ummmm...okay. Hopefully I'll have another opportunity to catch up with everyone before we move at the end of July.

Thanks letting me pout for a bit ladies. I'm all better lol. It just sucks when what you think is a good plan goes awry. Even though Saturday didn't go as planned we did get to meet the new addition to the family yesterday. We spent part of Baba's Day traveling to see my hunnys side of the fam (mostly the new baby boy his sister just had). He was so cute and so little. I don't know where that 9lbs went. She said he lost a little bit of weight but he didn't even look like an 8 lb baby. He just loves to be cuddled and sleep. He has the wing span of Tracy McGrady already with super long arms and legs and big hands. His daddy who plays semi-pro basketball is already thinking of putting a basketball in his hands. Auntie is thinking of a book to put in his hands lol. Anyway, all is well that ends well. I enjoyed the festivities this weekend.

Hey Chrs. We shall meet one day, I know it. lol For Fathers Day I helped Taj make daddy a sign. We went in the guest room while daddy was sleep and snapped a few shots and then sent them to his phone. It was early so don't laugh at my babys fro ladies lol

I cooked breakfast. I had planned to take him out to dinner but we didn't make it that day. We visited his family and spent time with the new baby. I'll probably take him out this weekend for dinner even though my cooking is better than any restaurant lol

In other news, my hair is twisted up as of Tuesday and I hope to keep it in until Sunday. I'm having itchy scalp issues and I applied my JBCO with Rosemary & Peppermint oil but it only helps temporarily so I may add a few drops of tea tree oil.

So I'm not going to make it until Sunday with these twists in. My scalp has been itching like crazy so I'm going to rock a twist out today to attend a birthday dinner for my friends sister and cowash tonight in hopes that it will feel better. I'm not due for a shampoo until the first so I'll try to hold out until then. I'm going into month 3 of my regimen and I think I like what I'm seeing. I'm still looking for another leave in conditioner to put in rotation with the KCKT but other than that I don't plan on changing anything. I love when things work out!

@MomnWife..I'm going to PM you. Smile I wanted to ask you a few questions just yesterday but didn't get around to it.
