Mixing EVOO with conditioner
Hello everyone! I have a question. I'm using Cathy Howse's protein deep conditioner as my main deep conditioner for about 20 minutes under the dryer then I rinse that and add EVOO to my hair and sit under the dryer for another 20 minutes. This process is taking a while and I hate having to take 3 showers. :-) Has anyone mixed olive oil with a protein conditioner. Any reason why I couldn't? Just wondering if one would nullify the results of the other. My hair is getting stronger from the protein and it feels so soft after the EVOO. Thanks!
Re: Mixing EVOO with conditioner
I mix oil with everything so I wouldn't see why you couldn't. Actually, I have and I know of a few curlies who pour the oil in the conditioner hahahaha!!!
Re: Mixing EVOO with conditioner
I always mix EVOO with my conditions to detangle every single time. It works well.
Re: Mixing EVOO with conditioner
I mix evoo into my deep condish too. Sometimes I do hot oil treatments overnight and rinse it out in the morning, that saves time too.

This makes me feel so much better. I wanted to make sure I was getting the benefits of the protein so I will add my EVOO next time!
Re: Mixing EVOO with conditioner
u can mix oils with conditioner because a lot of conditioners have emulsifiers that help bind oils to water (because oil and water naturally don't mix). could u kindly list the ingredients of the conditioner? thanks

Re: Mixing EVOO with conditioner
ok, this condish has an emulsifier and its is lecithin. so, you should be fine, especially since they already have olive oil in the formulation. now, am unsure how much olive oil (or any of the other ingredients for that matter) that was added. u can't tell the specific amount just be looking on the ingredient panel.
the only thing that i don't know anything about is royal bee jelly....i haven't heard of that before nor have i found literature about it

Moisturizer Ingredients:
Purified water, Olive oil, 1-Ocatdecanol, cetrimonium bromide, di-pathenol, allantoin, lecithin, dimethicone copolyol, methylparaben, diazolidinyl urea, propylparaben, retinol, tocopherol,
Leave in Moisturizer
Purified Water, propolyne glycol, Cyclomethicone, dimethicone, polysorbate-20, coconut oil, lanolin, methylparaben, fragrance, propylparaben, FD&C yellow 6 and FD&C Yellow 5.
I'm already seeing a lot of "cones" in the that one. Ugh!!!

Re: Mixing EVOO with conditioner
I'm seeing parabens in all of them. If you're ok with using them and haven't had any problems then don't worry about it. I'm not a fan of parabens and I'm trying to not purchase anymore products with cones in them.
Re: Mixing EVOO with conditioner
cones are not bad when used according to their intended use. if your hair is color-treated, i would highly suggest using them, as cones help protect hair from the sun, thus keep the color in the hair longer and promoting the integrity of the hair. if you are using heat syling tools (esp if you are relaxed), i highly suggest using cones because alot of cones are used notably because they can withstand extremely high temps while still enveloping the hair shaft.
still, there are some cones that are heavier than others, and such, they don't wash out readily and could possibly cuz buildup. so, a good clarifying cleanser/shampoo is good
the use of parabens is not detrimental to the human body. parabens have been shown in numerous toxicity studies to be easily uptaked, metabolized and excreted from the body with few adverse affects. still, there are few studies that show a link to cancer...keep in mind that is hard for every study to capture the same demographic in scope and breathe... imo, a lot of companies stay away from the use of parabens because it is a marketing/pr move, and not necessarily a stance against synthetic chemicals.

Re: Mixing EVOO with conditioner
WOW! Thanks for the info ladies. Just so you know, I am relaxed with about 1 1/2 -2 inches of new growth. I'm tightly coiled so it's hard to tell. No color and I don't use heat anymore. All twist-out type styles for me. I don't think I'll buy the leave in (spray) moisturizer anymore as it seems similar to using water and adding glycerin and oil. I really like the creme moisturizer as my hair gets really dry. Her shipping is very expensive so I'd love to only have to order her condish and purchase my moisturizers at the stores.
Today I went out and bought HEHH and RenPure Organics shampoo. I plan to wash every 8 days and co-wash every 4.
One more question: Cones and paraben are the same thing?
