Hey Sweet! The hair is great. TLC and snipping those nasty ends really did the trick...

Re: jlowman1: SHORT UPDATE 3/18 =)
So this past weekend I straightened with my new Instyler Rotating Hot Iron...
Here are the results:
My review: I this thing. The barrel really does a good job of making the hair shiny. It has 3 settings: high, medium and low. I used it on medium heat and it got my hair really straight. I used Silk Elements Heat Protectant Spray. I'd suggest not using a lot of product before using this tool. Your hair will not have body and will be heavy (I speak from experience). Also, next time I'll use some type of frizz serum so it will last a few more days. About two days later it began to frizz up. In all the pros outweigh the cons & I think it is a great investment. If you have the funds, give it a try!
Pros:
-Gets hair straight
-Easy to use
-Makes hair shiny
-Gives body and volume
-Big but lightweight
Cons:
-Expensive ($99.95 @ Ulta)
-Noisy
-Doesn't have a reverse feature (barrel doesn't turn the opposite way when you switch hands)

Hair Update: I clipped my ends after straightening with the Instyler. They were terrible. They hadn't been trimmed in several months. My hair is back to normal and feeling great again.

Thanks so much for this review!! Your hair looks great and I've been wondering about the InStyler. Apparently it's awesome

Great review on the instyler I heard it was noisy! Wow you do have alot of shine especially since you did use a frizz serum.

I loved the results of the instyler. Thanks for the review. Did you trim yourself again? If so, did you shape your hair when you cut it or just trimmed the ends?

I've been DYING to see someone with really kinky hair like mine do an InStyler review. Kudos to you. It came out gorgeous.

Your welcome, and yep I trimmed myself again. I just trimmed the ends, probably about an inch all around. My hair is a little uneven but I wear it in curly styles more than straight so it doesn't bother me that its not all uniform.

Thanks! I had to watch quite a few YT videos of women with 4a+ hair before I was convinced that it worked.

Nice results jlowman!! I have a friend whose hair is TERRIBLY thick. She got it, tried it, then returned it. I think she only tried it that one time and she may not have known what she was doing. LOL Glad it worked for you. So does it get hot hot? Not as hot as a flat iron right?

Thanks! It does get really hot on the high setting. The high setting is about 385, medium is around 315 and low is like 285. I used it on medium and that was enough to get my hair straight.

So are you still using this???
jlowman1 wrote:So I really enjoyed Carol's Daughter's Lisa's Hair Elixir... BUT Its like $20 a bottle plus shipping and I didnt want to keep purchasing it. The original ingredients are: Soybean Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Olive Oil, Peppermint Oil, Sage Oil, and Rosemary Oil. I figured I would make my own and see how it turned out. My finished product smells EXACTLY like her product.
My mix included equal parts (2 ounces) of Castor Oil (subbed for Soybean Oil), Sweet Almond Oil and Olive Oil. Then I added 10 drops each of Peppermint, Sage and Rosemary essential oils. I also added in an ounce of avocado oil at the end. I never use it and decided to throw it in...
SCRATCH THOSE 10 DROPS OF ESSENTIAL OIL. CUT IT DOWN TO ABOUT 2 OF EACH! I just used the original one to oil my scalp and the smell was soooo overpowering. I poured out about half and filled it from halfway with castor oil to cut the smell and its much less potent!
Here's a pic of the finished product:
I'll probably use this to oil my scalp and as a pre poo! We'll see how it goes...
I may just have to try this mix!!! Are you still using it and if so how is it working out for you???? I'd love to know!!! Thanks.

I haven't made it since that first time. The rosemary smell was so overpowering even after I cut it with castor oil. I think it may be that I just really don't like the smell of rosemary essential oil. If I were to make it again, I'd probably make a smaller batch and use only one drop of each essential oil but I did like it, just not the smell. I used it to pre poo and sealed with it a couple times.

oh ok. Cool. I actually don't mind the smell of rosemary oil and just got my order of it today with my castor and jojoba. I may have to try that though. Thanks.

No problem I love jojoba oil, its probably my fav oil with castor being a close second. If you try this mix, let me know how it works for you!
