Yay, thanks Lydia!
Renon, my twists are extremely pitiful and frail looking. You'd never know I had so much hair

Funny...I always remember greasy, drippy jheri curls. But, hey, I had to suck it up for the sake of my 'do! LOLswoodward wrote:Looking good!!!

Hey Ladies! Happy Wednesday to ya!
Hair News...I had to twist it up last night. I did not want to deal with reinvigorating the WnG. The Twist out works for me. I won't totally abandon the WnG...it'll be for that quick do when needed. Why? Because when I wear one I can't stop thinking my hair is dry. I mess with it all damn day long....aargggh! LOL Yesterday, at work, I brought a bag of stuff to combat the dryness: Carefree Curl & water, Curls Moisturizer, and Shea Moisture Conditioning Milk & Moisture Mist! Now that is just ridiculous!
So, I twisted using good ole Eco Custard (my mix: shea butter, olive, coconut & castor oils, eco styler get). Right now, I'm feeling good...my hair is looking good (it's stickin' up all over the place and I LOVE IT)...shiny, coily and soft! *SIGH*
Sister Boyd...I tried!
Have a wonderful day, y'all!

I thought it was just me. I always think of Robin Harris in House Party talking bout follow the drip follow the drip. And I had a curl in the 80's and I did buy some carefree hair moisturizer but still had my doubts , cause i figured it was related to the World of Curls white and blue with the pump spray bottle. I've used it once, because the the smell just takes me back to plastic bags on my head and drips on my clothes. ugh

Don;t take my Jheri Curl juice..
"My activator...my activator!!!"
Now my sis ONLY does w&gs. She used a glycerin spray and her hair isn't dry at all. So I have to say, I have heard good things.

Re: TheRYL1...Hey Y'all! ;-)
You are too funny. You were having HIH like most curlies when we wear our hair out!!! LOL
So I have a question....WHERE ARE THE TWIST OUT PICTURES??? Sorry I didn't mean to yell...just a little excited over here!!
One more question...why do you add shea butter to your EcoCustard? Have you ever tried it without the shea butter? Just asking because when I re-twist this weekend I'm going to use the EcoCustard mixture...
So I'll be back later to see your pictures. **no pressure**

Hey Y'all!
KNH...I know right? I went to bed and that was IT! I'll get on it this evening! LOL
I added the shea butter to my eco mix because I find it makes my hair soft, especially my ends. I didn't know if it would "work" or not, but I'm really pleased it did. The plus...my hair is soft and not dry at all AND the usual gel "crunch" is non-existent! I tried with aloe vera gel, too. It was cool, but my hair felt kinda gummy...I think the AVG and the Eco Styler was just too much gel/goop! LOL
Give it a shot...you may be pleasantly surprised!
Hey nattyb...THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Swood...I think I'm going to purchase some glycerin soon.
So, ladies...How goes it today? I hope all is well! I have a workshop/training/lecture, blah, blah, blah to attend today from 9-3...I hope I can stay awake! Oh well, they pay me for it! YAY!
Have a wonderful day, y'all!

Hey Ryl!
I just some research on the products I bought from the Indian store and I discovered the jasmine and alma oils are full of mineral oil. I doubt I can take it back so I don't know what I'm going to do with this stuff. The only thing that is a go for me is the vatika oil. I didn't go through all of the ingredients, but it seems pretty good.
Man! That's just horrible! Of course, I looked it up after I mixed a new batch of body oils with the jasmine.
I guess I'll be heading over to the swap thread *walking out with head hung low and lip poked out*

Hey RYL1...
So I tried the Ecostyler Custard. I really like it, but I don't like the sticky feeling. So, I'm going to add Shea Butter the next time, but I still have a lot left. How do I store the extra? Can I just leave it out like gel?
How is your day going so far?

No...not mineral oils! And I liked the amla oil, too. (It worked so well as a pre-poo, too.) But, I really hadn't used it for a couple of months...I ran out and castor oil has become a staple. So...I guess I'll leave it alone! Hey, hold that head up and un-poke that lip...you did good research! You'd be HOT if you'd used it, THEN done the research! Lemons, lemonade...yada, yada! LOL

Yeah, use shea butter instead. I had that gummy/sticky feeling with aloe vera gel, too. I think it, and the eco-styler is just too much "gel" at one time! I've been leaving mine out (or in the cabinet)...it's just oils and gels. I don't make too much at once, enough for about two sets of twists...too hard smushing that much shea!
My day is going well...so far...and it's FRIDAY!
Well, in hair news...
Yesterday, I received so many compliments on my hair...I was shocked, really. Remember I had the training...well, I'd seen co-workers I hadn't seen lately...I got nothing but compliments! Funny thing is...all I did the night before was twist up some stragly (is that a word) places, using no product...that was it!
(Q: Do y'all find that "others" compliment you moreso than your own? I'm curious!)
Today is Day 3 of my twist out...I will have pics tonight. Forgive me y'all, I've just been going home...and not feeling like touching a computer.
Hey...The Man's closest friend's wife is a beautician! When I walked in their house, it was full of her co-workers...other chicks who do hair...all with incredible weaves. If they all didn't look at me like I stepped into the house butt-nakie! LMAO I wish I had a picture of their faces...PRICELESS! (This was a few weeks ago...I forgot to tell y'all. But trip this.) I was over there this past weekend, the wife & I are talking and we were talking about people & how they are. Anywho...she said she knew I wasn't phony..."when you walked in, with your natural hair, I knew you were real!" She just didn't know...that's me TheRYL1...HAHAHAHAHAHA! I thought that was special considering she & all her girls have the super-dupa weaves...and no hair lines...DAMN, DAMN, DAMN! Yeah, y'all know I was looking! Just like they were checking out my twist out...I showed her how to do a 3-strand twist...oh, I was on it! I repped the Natural Women BIG TIME!
Something else...The Man told me later that I got the looks I did because he'd never taken another woman over to his friend's home and he never dealt with one of the friends (yeah, I had to know which chick would give me the side-eye ...y'all know how it go!) So they didn't know what he'd step to...but when he stepped in with his all natural woman, they were too shocked (his words). Man...aint that something?
All this to say: Being natural is really not for the faint of heart...you have to take the stares, the perceptions and whatever else folks want to dish out...just because you dare to be you! But, I also find, that people understand...to quote that great Negro poet Ice Cube (West-si-ide!!)..."That I am the wrong n*ggah to phuck with!" Does my hair reinforce that? Hmmmmm...possibly!
Have a wonderful day, y'all!

I mixed shea butter, olive oil and castor oil with the Eco Styler. I like this mixture; it gives me hold and my hair is not crunchy...it's soft & moisturized. I tried it with the AVG, but it made my hair gummy/sticky, so I won't add it again.
HTH, Lady!

I do find I get more positive responses from other people more than my own. But what I don't like is even thought they tell me my hair is "intricate" or nice or they like this style better on me. they still look at my hair like it's a science project. Like they are trying to figure it out. My own people (mainly my family I get the side eye and in return i give them the eye roll) my friends are super supportive or natural themself or transitioning. Hubby is weird about my hair even though he is happy when I am happy with my hair and he like that it is different each time he see it and he points out that he noticed more people with kinky weaves and wigs, but my hair looks way better than theirs. But when i walk in the house yesterday he say hey wassup Chrisette! That's who you trying to look like today right? Um nope special case I look like me. I would be wrong if I said Hey wassup Michael Jordan cause he's bald and wears Nike's all the dang time.

Funny you say that...the other day, an Asian co-worker...saw me and was like..."your hair...it's, it's DIFFERENT" All I could do is laugh...you could tell he was caught off guard and didn't mean to say anything, but it slipped out...and then he didn't know how to proceed! I just laughed and said...yes, it is different, with a laugh & a smile!npmoore04 wrote:I do find I get more positive responses from other people more than my own. Hey Ryl, just caught up on your thread. Girl, the weavies will give you the once over and think nothing of it! I love that you were schooling the friends wife. That entire story was just awesome and powerful. You are so right, being natural is NOT for the faint of heart!
BTW- I wore my hair straight last night to a jazz club. I had it straightened because I wanted my ends trimmed and to do a length check. WELL- why did some natural heffa with a beautiful twist updo (which I was admiring) give ME the side eye and fake smile?? She had no idea I was actually admirning her hair. LOL! I don't discriminate when it comes to ladies with relaxers. I couldn't care less what they do to their hair but I have heard some permies express frustration with natural chicas looking down on them. I felt I got a taste of that AND it was kind of funny.

@Poeticly...why should someone care what another someone--YOU DON'T KNOW--does to their hair? Man! That's what gets me! Too funny...you got the "vibe"! She just doesn't know...your curls would probably put her to shame! So...she would have been mad at you either way! hahahahahahaha
I don't have anything against a relaxed head...I still compliment chicks on their (straight) hair if it looks good...I don't hate (as Yaki Girl would say). Why you wanna hate on me? SMH

WOW...funny that you guys mention this, because there is another person that resides in me name Dareekia (had to name her cause I couldn't explain her) I really try to keep her under wraps, but that sister is something else. I don't know when she is going to rise up, but things like rudeness, disrespect, and most of messing with my kids or money will make her surface!! (do y'all remember the Whataburger incident about 45 days ago?)
I try not to act that way, because I believe there is an intelligent way to handle everything and when that doesn't work ignoring people does. However, there are situations where you gotta do what you gotta do!!! LOL
RYL1...I know you mean about a hot minute, and not only that when its over I really can't remember what I said or what I've done!! Scary...I know!!!

This is not only happening to the relaxed sisters, but I've noticed this with natural on natural!!! I know its sad, but I've found certain naturals that have a problem empowering other naturals. I've meet two naturals like this so far. I'm glad that I don't need someone to validate me, but it hurts my heart when sisters get to such a place that we behave in such a manner.
