TheRYL1...
Hello Ladies!
I call this "Finally" because I finally have decided to get on board! LOL I've read so much about so many of you, I want to share some of me, too! So here I go...something I realized a few days ago:
I've been fully natural for just 3 weeks...WOW! May will be one year without the "creamy crack"...perm, as we called it! LOL
And you know, I love my hair (I haven't come up with a name...I gotta get to know her better first)! We have our moments, but I'm good. It seems a natural (hehe) progression, but I know different; I've come a long way in my "hair thoughts", if you will.
I've had a perm since I was 13 years old! I BEGGED for it because I couldn't take pressing my hair EVERYDAY (because nappy hair was a no-no) due to sweating from sports. I was known for my hair...my friends/fam called me Perm Woman...OK?!? I think I've permed almost every one of my long-time girlfriends' hair over the years...I got that hair SKRAIGHT, gurl!!
When I finally thought of getting rid of the perm...I always put it off, mostly for employment reasons...or so I thought. Now I know I worried what folks would think! SMH
But, I had a physical issue that caused me to just lay for days at a time! That time made me know what's important and what is not! AMEN.
Anyway...I'm natural FINALLY and that's no LYE (NylaCoils)! I can't wait to see how my hair looks next May!
I'm glad to be here and I look forward to learning so much more from all the folks here at the Curl Street Journal!

Hey Ladies!
Well, today, I got Day 3 out of my twist out! YAY! :-)
This evening, I decided to co-wash and DC...it was needed. Me & my hair have been out & about, and all up in BBQ smoke!
Here's what I did:
Pre-poo: Amla oil (left on about an hour...this was not gonna take all night...LOL)
Co-wash (wash): I used a little Giovanni 50/50 Shampoo, in addition to HE Hello Hydration
Deep Conditioner: Giovannit 50/50 Conditioner, mixed with honey, amla oil and coconut oil
Leave-in: SheaMoisture Conditioning Milk
I braided my hair, applying some shea butter/amla & coconut oils to my ends. I planned to twist when my hair was semi-dry, but I fell asleep, so...I'll get to it later this morning. :-)
I think my daughter (who is 18) really didn't believe I was going to actually get rid of the relaxed ends and then really wear my hair this way! hahahahaha Lately, she's been making comments...today, she's watching me braid my hair. She shakes her head and says, "it's so short!" I'm like, "It's long!" She looked at me like I'd lost my mind! I had to tell her all things are relative! She seems to be in mourning for my old hair...SMH. Hopefully, she'll get over it soon! LOL
I'll add some pics later today.
Have a wonderful day, y'all! :-)

I agree, that it's long. My family was the same way, when I cut off my damaged ends. But, secretly in total awe! hehe

CurlsGalore...I know, right? I'm loving my new neighborhood...glad I came! :-)
TerraD...I didn't know my daughter would take it so hard! SMH True story: The other day, she picked up a picture of us from a few years ago, and then (very dramatically) looked at me, then back at the picture. She then held the picture to her chest in "Oh, Lawd" fashion, saying, "she needs a minute...she can't even look at me right now...she feels like it's her hair that's been cut off". My poor baby! We were laughing, but I know she meant it just the same...ya know?
It didn't occur to me that MY hair decision would bother HER so much. But, I guess I should have known. I've always been the one with "good hair"...of my daughter, sisters, cousins, mother (let them all tell it). How that came to be...I don't know...only Moms can answer that question (hmmm...shh...wait, she won't see this, right?).
If I had "good hair" it was because I took care of my hair! I started combing my hair when I was EIGHT ( years old! My mother worked graveyard shift and that left my g-ma to do my hair...PLAITS...no cute parts, just plaits going any-whicha-way!!! NOT! I wasn't having that...even at 8! My mother pressed it; I did everything else. I could work a mean curling iron by the time I was 10 and got a hair dryer for my 11th b-day. Yeah, I've been playing in my head a long time!
So for the last few years...5, 6, 7...SMH...I've pretty much worn a ponytail. Yes, I said for the last 7 years, I'd worn my hair in a ponytail...styling it every now and then. I didn't care about it...my hair has been long, short, shaved in the back, GREEN (don't ask), brown, kinda blonde (haha), kinda orange...etc., oh, yeah, not to mentioned wrapped til it didn't want to be wrapped anymore! LOL
All this to say...the women in my family...had huge problems with my ponytail because I had the good hair! I thought one of my sister's was gonna cut my hair in the middle of the night...you know...you don't do nothing with it, so you don't need it kinda thing! For real, I kid you not!
NOW, NOW, NOW, I have the NERVE to cut it off and let it be NAPPY! Yeah, I better watch my back! LMAO
Q: You ever had a friend get mad at you because you didn't know how to glue a track in?
Yeah, I got hair stories for y'all! :-)
