Re: TWA Growth Challenge
@ pfarley, I actually used the henna on my hair twice with the rainbow henna from wholefood store and it did not change the texture of my hair but it gave me a very good deep condition. I like it very much and will perform it again at the end of this month.
@ Knottykinkymommy and RoseBud I see that difference with growth. I performed the BC on the same day that you did RoseBud and expericed a lot of hair growth in two months.
@Missmoriahiscurly, your hair is absolutely gorgeous, I can not wait till I can try different styles on my hair.
I am currently going into my 2nd month post BC'ed and can wear a head band so I am excited about that. I do have a mini puff. I am posting a couple different pictures.
1. My hair today

I just wanted to say that I'm really enjoying this thread. You girls are amazing inspiration! I can't wait to see how far we've come in 6 months.
Re: TWA Growth Challenge
@ chscott_77
Thank you for the response. I love my current regimen as far as DC goes so I think I might try it a couple of mos down the road.

Re: TWA Growth Challenge
Yes, it does! How many months into your BC with the picture you just posted and how many months are you post BC'ed now? I will like to try the twist out in your previous post. I think I have a bit of length to attemp the style but may need to wait until I am post 4 or 5 months.
Re: TWA Growth Challenge
hey chs77, what products are you currently using. you hair looks great? Are you the one using aubrey?

Re: TWA Growth Challenge
@ RoseBud, Thanks! I currently use HE Totally Twisted for co-washing, I co-wash everyday. I use Long aid activator mixed with EcoStyler gel to hold my curls. If I use the EcoStyler by itself my curls are not that defined and my hair is very dry. I find that putting the EcoStyler on first and then the Long Aid on second, I don't touch it and let it dry a bit before I separate the curls. I think that the Long Aid activator keeps it moisterized. It stays really soft during the day but I do carry around a water bottle that consist different products and oils that I put together. I really don't need it.
@missmoriahiscurly, I was thinking that your hair was more than 3 months post BC. Do you have a blog or fotki page?

Re: TWA Growth Challenge
Hey Ladies, just checkin in, wow it's now been 3 months since my BC and and 6 months since my last relaxer. I can't believe it. I never would have thought I would've decided to go natural.

I use to swear by HETT and HEHH, [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] I used those two for about a month. I wanted to try something diffrent so i went and bought some giovanni direct leave in and smooth as silk [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] . Guess what, i am returning them . I have heard so many great reviews about Yes to cucumbers, i bought some today and i cant wait to use it.

Re: TWA Growth Challenge
hey rosebud, I have simplified my reggie so much:
Shampoo with either oyin honey wash/shampoo bar 1-2 times a week
co-wash with VO5 Herbal Escapes ( I recently purchased the clarifying conditioner-love that so that will be a staple)
I seal with my evoo/coconut oil mix
I use eco styler to define my curls
I was co-washing everyday because I just didn't like the way day 2 hair looked but since it's gotten longer I don't have to co-wash as often I just wet my hair and it comes back to life.
I make my own DC and I do that once a week, I use the VO5 condish and add my oil mix, honey and aloe vera gel.
sometimes I do a hot oil treatment overnight but that's not a weekly thing.

Re: TWA Growth Challenge
Thanks @ Missmoriahiscurly I will check out your link.
RoseBud, I wanted to try the giovanni direct leave in but I will wait for that because it is a bit expense. Your right about the Ecostyler, it makes my hair so hard afterwards. I do have the Yes Too Carrots and use it for a deep conditioner and I do like how my hair feels afterwards.
@Newcurlieque, I was thinking the same thing about co-washing every day. I hope that I will not have to co-wash that much as my hair starts growing. Right now I can't stand the build up from the products.

Congrats to all you ladies who are celebrating your nappyversary soon.

Re: TWA Growth Challenge
Hi Ladies [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] ,
Currently the length of my hair is 1 1/2 inches & my hair type is a 4b/4c.
The products I'm currently using are Almond Oil (Thanks Peggy for this recommendation!), Coconut Oil which my hair seems to love (leaves my hair soft & manageable), Castor Oil, Unrefined Shea Butter, Herbal Essence Hello Hydration Moisturizing Conditioner (Orchid & Coconut Milk), Homemade Deep Conditioner (Hello Hydration, Castor Oil & Honey).
My current regimen consist of daily co-washes with my favorite conditioner mentioned above. I baggy every evening before bed with castor oil, almond oil & coconut oil. Beginning this weekend, I will wash with my peppermint/shea butter castile soap, deep condition with my homemade conditioner & acv rinse.
My goal right now is to grow healthy hair.
I did my BC on May 7th & it was the best moment ever!! I'm growing to love my twa more & more.

Re: TWA Growth Challenge
Hey ladies, just checking in. I had my two month anniversary last week! Time has just flown by. I'll upload some current pics when I get the time. Hope everyone is doing well!
Re: TWA Growth Challenge
Congrats ladies on all your nappyversaries! My 3 month was on the 5th. Everyone's hair looks GORGEOUS and healthy! MissMoriah your hair is absolutely beautiful and Rosebud you already know I'm a huge fan of yours.
I wanted to do something special for my nappyversary so I treated my hair to a hot oil treatment (which i had never done before), wash, and deep deep condition. Then I tried some finger coils and actually ended up figuring out I can do two strand twists on the majority of my hair (minus the back). VERY EXCITING. Then on Friday I did some cornrows in the front of my head....surprised again....they didn't look all that great but I still went to church and out with the girls with them. I learned to not underestimate what i can do with my hair just because of shrinkage. I'll add pics later.
Happy health growth ladies.

Re: TWA Growth Challenge
hi dolls -
okay, here are my stats:
1. Current length is 2-2 1/2 inches (according to my ruler...lol). Hair type is 4b/c.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
2. I started the challenge this week.
3. Products in my house:
Unrefined Shea Butter, Oils (castor, sweet almond, coconut, olive), Megatek, Carol's Daughter Tui Leave-In, Bed Head Maniac Moisture, Organix, Cantu Shea Butter, Giovanni Tea Trea Shampoo, Bragg's ACV....and I'm drawing a blank. But I don't use all this stuff simultaneously - just naming what's in my cabinet.
4. Regimen:
Co-wash - a few times a week. I usually co-wash whenever I feel my hair needs it, whether it's everyday or not. I co-wash with Suave Coconut, Bed Heads Moisture Maniac, or Organix (Tea Tree or Manadarin Olive Oil). Sometimes I leave a lil in, other times I don't. I listen to my hair... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
DC once a week, usually on Sundays. I usually make my own and make sure whatever the mix is that Sunday, it includes Megatek or Honey.
Baggy - twice a week (olive oil + sweet almond oil + castor)
Shampoo - once a month (Giovanni Tea Tree Shampoo, it's sulfate free)
ACV rinse once a week.
I want to start Henna. Maybe this month.
I recently began braiding or twisting my hair every night. I do that, then take it out in the morning. If I'm not going anywhere, I'll leave it in.
Sleep with my satin bonnet every night.
5. Hair Goals - healthy moisturized hair, retaining length.
6. BC date was 10/10/09. Here's the pic:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Personally, I don't think I have enough length being in my 7th month but then again I know I wasn't paying much attention to my hair when I first BC'd. Slept without a bonnet for the first 4 months and experienced tons of shedding and even a bald spot in the back left side - it might have been due to the bonnet or the winter - either way it was bad.
I was hoping to be able to style my hair and fro-hawk it up by now, but maybe soon. I'm patient and keeping up my regimen this time.
Is anyone else experiencing growth mostly at the top and not the back or sides?
...happy growing !
