Re: TWA Growth Challenge
Update: I decided not to use the Afroveda products (curl define & pur whipped gelly) because they make my hair very dry. It could be that I don't know how to properly use the products - ugh! So, I'm just going to use the Qhemet's Karkady Mist (I love this stuff), AOHC & OHHB.
At night, I apply the AOHC and in the morning, I just spray my hair with the Karkady Mist and go.

Re: TWA Growth Challenge
@Nubie: I REALLY needed to get my hair shaped after the last chop in February. It's the last time I swear!!!
TWA Growth Challenge
1. Starting Stats (Length & Hair type) Measured 2.5 inches and I'm not quite sure about my hair type because it looks like I have more than one type in some areas. But mainly 4a (I guess).
2. Starting Pictures (Please excuse the brightness of the flash and your eyes are not deceiving you, my hair does look ashy because I tried a new product and as my hair was air drying my hair started to flake [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] but great curl definition; too bad because this gel would have been a keeper[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
3. Products: K triple C (Kinky Curly Curling Custard), Kinky Curly Come Clean, Kinky Curly Knot Today, Kinky Curly Gloss Pomade and the Spirling Spritz. Eluecence Moisture Balance shampoo and the conditioner. Jessicurl Weekly Deep Treatment. Jojoba oil, Apricot Kernel oil, Grapeseed oil, Castor oil, Olive oil, Rosemary oil, Peppermint oil (I use all of these oils except for the rosemary and peppermint oil on my skin and body because the oils and K triple C don't play well together.
4. Regimen: Okay, I pretty much do my hair every other day since I work out and sweat a great deal so saving my hair from getting it washed (Yes, with shampoo) every other day is not an option for me since my hair is so short and my hair is dripping wet after working out. But I use the Come Clean which has no sulfates and isn't drying to my hair. Then I follow up with the Knot Today (Not rinsing it out) and then glide in the curling custard (all in the shower) and it's a wrap! Done! Finito! Then once a week I do my Jessicurl Weekly Deep Treatment either sitting under the dryer or leaving it in over night (I'm lazy so more than likely it's an overnighter) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
5. Hair goals: I just want healthy hair...nice bushel of healthy hair...a nice bushel of healthy hair with lots of curls and it has to be soft too! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: TWA Growth Challenge
1. Starting stats (Length and Hair Type)
My hair is measuring in at 3 inches and I would say it is 4a/4b
2. Starting Picture
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
3. Products
Low-poo: Giovanni 50:50 or Tea Tree
Co-Wash Conditioners: HE HH, Giovannie Tea Tree, Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut, VO5 Apple Clarifying
DC: AOHS (sometimes mixed with EVOO or honey), Giovanni SAS
Leave-in: Giovanni Direct Leave-In, KC Knot Today
Moisturizers: Shea Butter mix, water/glycerin/aloe spray, TIGI Moisture Maniac
Sealants: EVOO, EVCO
Stylers: Eco Styler, KCCC (I purchased but not a regular user)
4. Regimen
My current regimen is 1x/week shampoo (using KimmayTube's buffering technique), condition and detangle, apply DC for at least one hour with shower cap, rinse and plop, and apply leave-in. I then use my shea butter mix and eco styler for small two-strand twists and seal with EVOO. I keep the twists in for 4-5 days and wear a twist out the rest of the week. Every morning I apply shea butter mix and EVOO and at night I spritz with my spray/EVOO and baggy.
I used to co-wash and do chunky twist-outs 2x/week but I'm in my last month of pregnancy and a sista's tired. I figured the simplified regimen and low manipulation will be better anyways, especially when the babe arrives.
5. Hair Goals
My biggest struggle since my BC has been MOISTURE. I just can't seem to get my hair to stay moisturized throughout the whole day. So I hope this challenge helps me to find the right products and product combo to achieve this. My ultimate goal is healthy hair with some growth along the way.
6. BC date (pic if you have one)
I BC'd on March 12th and my last relaxer was end-Aug 2009. The only BC pic I have is when I tried two-strand twists for the first time the night of my BC.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I'm excited and can't wait to see what my hair will look like 6 months from now.

NubieNatty, girl, I can't take all the credit for those curls because the K Triple C trained my hair to curl like that. Now the gel that I used in the first two pictures was something that I bought at WholeFoods called John Masters Organics. It has the same slip like the K Triple C but is less drippy (is that a word [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] )? But unfortunately it left me looking like a crispy creme doughnut for real [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] but the curls were out of this world, oh well, back to the drawing board [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] .
But thank you for the compliment [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] they do look like coils now that I'm looking at them, hmmm....

Leave-In's - SheaMoisture, Cantu Shea Butter, Hydratherma, CD milk.

the verdict is still out on MJ products

Re: TWA Growth Challenge
thanks, NubieNatty --- blessed with great genes and a wise grandmother who taught me at an early age to take care of my skin.... she just turned 87 last week and could past for maybe 75... her husband (no. 3) is 2 yrs younger than my mother... when they got married, i told him to be careful --- doesn't matter that he's younger... the last 2 died on her.... lol
