Seeking a Twin or Big Sister
Hello all,
I am Kay and I'm new to the natural world as well as CN. I have been transitioning since June '09 and would love to have a transitioning twin and or a big sister. From what I can see I potentially have 3B or 3C hair and lots of it. I am not looking to BC because that is just far too drastic for me... Definitely not looking forward to that. Please assist so that I won't be blind in this transition !!! Thank you!
I'd need help with products.. and style ideas.. just direction in general. :]

Re: Seeking a Twin or Big Sister
I can try to help. My hair is a looser curl in many areas. I did not know about transitioning or cutting all my hair off when I decided to no longer relax my hair about 10 years ago.
What are you looking for in terms of products?
What types of styles do you like?
Check out my fotki and BnB page. Let me know how I can help.

I am completely lost when it comes to products. I currently co-wash every other day or every 3 days. I poo once every other week using an organic Olive Oil shampoo. I DC every other week.. I don't like alot of heavy products.. I usually do twist outs or bantu knot outs.. I am actually lookin for more things to do with my hair...

Co-washing every other day or every three days sound good. What do you use? Do you focus on your scalp?
What do you use to condition your hair? What do you use to DC?
I have a lot of styles in my fotki. Did you have a chance to look at it?
Are you looking for style ideas? I want to understand what you mean by "I am actually lookin for more things to do with my hair."
Re: Seeking a Twin or Big Sister
I use herbal essences hello hydration. I conditioner with an olive oil conditioner and dc with a olive oil dc. I need protective styles. Or something that hides this terrible transition stage lol.. I'd prefer not to get any added hair for braids ..

Your product selection sounds good. If they work for you, I would not suggest changing them.
As for transition styles, I would suggest bantu knot outs, braid outs and twist outs. They help blend your hair's texture. Let me know if you need help on how to do them. I have done them all.
I am glad you were able to check out my fotki. Thanks for the compliments.

How can I keep my hair from frizzing once I take the braids out ? It does well for a few hours, but by the end of the day, it's frizzy or dry.

Re: Seeking a Twin or Big Sister
To control frizz, your hair has to be moisturized. One way to do this is to do your braids on wet hair. First, apply moisturizer right after cleansing. Ensure your hair is well coated. Then seal with shea butter, oil or sealant of choice. When unbraiding, make sure hair is dry. If it is still damp, coat your hair and/or hand with sealant or moisturizer. Start at the bottom of the braid and work your way up. If you want to combat frizz further, you could put a bit of gel on your hair.
If you braid or rebraid at night when hair is dry, add a bit of moisturizer and sealant before doing so. Follow same technique when undoing the braids.
If you fluff your braid out for a fuller look or cover parts, work from underneath your hair.
Let me know if this does not make sense.

Re: Seeking a Twin or Big Sister
ok... so on Saturday morning I decided to straighten my hair.. I was very careful to use heat protectants and not to apply too much heat. I let it air dry for two days prior to.. and then flat ironed.. So far it's holding up ok, not too much swelling lol. Mainly my "kitchen" which is completely natural is curling up, but the front is holding up well !
pics shall be up soon !
p.s. funny enough.. as much as I thought I was beginning to miss my straight hair... it's only been 2 days and I kinda want my curls back ! Trust, I will be washing by the end of this week !! :]

Re: Seeking a Twin or Big Sister
I definitely understand re: straight hair. I have rollerset three times and each time I had volume and curls. I may use a flat iron on it in August.
To help with kitchen, I use castor oil when wrapping.
I look forward to pictures.

Re: Seeking a Twin or Big Sister
Yeah.. if I decide to straighten again it'll be via rollers.. I get really nervous putting direct heat on my hair. I will experiment with the castor oil and hopefully it'll work for me as well !
SN- your new Avi is gorgeous, I love the style !

Re: Seeking a Twin or Big Sister
Please let me know if the castor oil works. It is a thicker oil so I suggest using a dime size at first and applying more if needed. You can also mix it wth a lighter oil like sweet almond or grapeseed.
Thanks for the compliment.

In need of help from someone experienced in henna treatments
How was you past experience with Henna? I'm going to try Henna this weekend for the very first time. I've read some horrible stories about how hard it makes your hair and it's impossible to rinse out, blah blah blah so I'm a bit worried.
Would you advise adding oils, or a cream conditioner to the henna mixure before putting it in your hair? Also, when treating your hair with henna, do you sit under the dryer?
