Thanks for the compliment! Once I run out of regular shampoo, I'm going to switch to castile soap ASAP! Do you dilute it at all?
YES YES YES. Please dilute...i beg you i've heard horror stories of people washing out soap suds for weeks.
i put about 1/4 cup of soap in maybe 24 ounces of water...its WONDERFUL. It's slippery, very soapy and wonderful, cleans like a dream and for some reason, detangles my hair very well!
Right now, i'm using peppermint, before that i was using almond...they are about the same..just a few different ingredients

Re: Submit Your Mix and a Picture
Okay let me say this I LOVE HENNA - did my first henna this weekend and was blown away by the results. I bought my henna from here - http://www.mehandi.com/shop/african/index.html and can't be more pleased with the results.
Nik was correct - my curls came out elongated and super soft. My GRAYS were a nice brown/red. I used the henna for African hair - brunette mix and followed Nik's method of using green tea.
I brewed/stepped the tea for 24 hours, did the henna and I think I made it to thin. So instead of mixing the indigo separately, I just put it into the henna to make more solid. I was SUPER nervous of the mix for the indigo so I just used a bit - say about 25-40mg.

Let me say that my hair had a medium brown on the roots from Clairol color that I hated, but couldn't wait to see the henna results. I put the henna in Saturday at about 8:30 and slept overnight. IT CAME OUT SO EASY IN THE SHOWER; I did an HE coconut 50/50 poo & conditioner and then used my Organix Coconut conditioner. Followed up with a twist & curl which I left in until this morning - I LOVE HENNA and can’t wait to see how long the gray coverage lasts. Ready for my next one (smile). Hope the pictures do it justice!

Thanks - If I can keep my hands out of my head I will be okay. I can't stop touching it - it feels sooooooooooo good!
I can't beleive how soft it feels and it really was a bit longer after the henna. I am so looking forward to the next few days to see the color deepen and then the next few months as i continue to henna and see the changes!

Re: Submit Your Mix and a Picture
@CurlyNikki Hey, Im a little confused about the henna. So I just ordered the Jamila Henna 2009 Sunday night after asking you which was best. Anyhoo...after reading a few of the threads on the henna, was I supossed to order color with it as well??? I thought just using the henna willl automatically kinda give you a hint of color. I was just going to get the henna, add green tea and honey and get going? Is color/indigo necessary to add? Or is that if you want color?
Anybody....feel free to reply back!!!!

Re: Submit Your Mix and a Picture
hello natural. Based on what I have read henna is. A dye in itself and will give you a hint of color. You have to mix and leave overnight for the color to release. Depending on your hair color that will determine the color you get from henna. Check out hennaforhair.com it has a lot of great info on the site about how your hair will react.

Thanks you much Miss CurlyNikki for the compliment!! I certainly credit my henna-ventures to your praises on the site!! I just recently did my 3rd henna treatment this past weekend and I am now officially IN LOVE [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] with my henna! This time I noticed my hair feels thicker, a lot more manageable, and a lot less shedding in the shower. The only thing I haven't checked out yet is a wash n go, my usual *weekend* style, so I hope the curls aren't too loose. I think I will try to henna every two weeks....or more likely knowing myself once a month...to maintain some of these awesome results.
Thanks Miss Nikki for all you do for us curlies! Have a splendid week!
Here is a close-up of the color

Thank you! I use Reshma henna. It is pretty easy to find in local Indian stores in my area (St. Louis), so i'm sure it's around where you are.
At $2.99 a box, you really can't go wrong! It's sifted very well (no twigs, sand, or dirt), and it releases color pretty quickly.
Re: Submit Your Mix and a Picture
I use coconut oil, honey, green tea, amla, and occasionally yogurt or a banana. It's works really well for me, and It doesn't have a drying effect at all (at least not for me).

The growth around my edges has been amazing. My hair is probably healthier than it's ever been.

It's been fun to watch my hair grow. I take a few update pics every few months. I'm always stunned. I usually don't realize how much it's grown until I look at the pics side by side.

Re: Submit Your Mix and a Picture
This time I used the henna for African hair (usually I use Jamila 2008- BAQ) but I wanted to try something new. I also used lemon juice/water instead of tea or amla as my acid. And after the dye release I added honey, lavender oil, jojoba & castor oil (castor oil was something new too).
I think I may stick with the henna for African hair. It was wayyyy easier to rinse and apply than Jamila IMO. Didn't notice much of a color change and I don't care anyway. But my hair is always looking great post-henna. A little looser, it seems but it goes back to normal within a week. I've notice my curls clump better and improved definition.
This is my hair before I even tried henna

Re: Submit Your Mix and a Picture
CarlsM...your picture of your edges is inspiring to me at this point in my natural journey. Your edges don't look nearly as bad as mine do currently but its still good to see that with henna and care they have thickened up for you. I can't wait for that day lol.
Re: Submit Your Mix and a Picture
After experiencing allergic reactions to henna, I spoke to 2 women of Indian descent. One suggested henna plus water. The other suggested yogurt and henna. I prefer the yogurt- smoother consistency and easier application. Doesn't require too much henna!

Your hair is sooo Pretty!! I love the shine, and color!!veggiegirl314 wrote:My mix:
100g Reshma Henna
about 1 cup of green tea
about 5 tablespoons honey
Reshma henna usually releases color quickly, so I apply it right to my hair and leave it in (with a heating cap) for 5 to 6 hours or overnight. The next morning, I rinse, deep condition, and that's it! I LOVE henna!
