TWA problems??
So I Bc'd Monday night and as expected my hair is soooo dry. I've been using HEHH and Aussie Moist for my co washes and leave in. I was excited about doing WNG's but my hair does not seem to be cooperating with me. I'm not sure what to do. I'm trying to stay away from cones and sulfates. But does anyone know what on earth I can put in my hair to moisturize it, get some curl definition, and make my WNGs, more of a WNG instead of a wash, with a way to long of a style time before I can "go" if that makes sense lol. I don't have a set regimen yet either so any help establishing one would be great!

Re: TWA problems??
conditioner! conditioner! conditioner! and sealing will give you more moisture. I also used conditioner to define my curls when I first BC'd. Also, plopping helps with the drying time of a WNG.
Re: TWA problems??
Thanks Erica! So after I rinse or cowash should I apply more conditioner while its soaking wet or let it dry some? And can you please please please explain the plopping method?? And how long did it take your curls to "pop" after you first BC'd?

Re: TWA problems??
I cowash with a conditioner, then use another conditioner as a rinse out and then add more conditioner to leave in (all while the hair is soaking wet). To plop, all I do is wrap a t-shirt around my head and let it sit for about 20 mins (don't rub the hair, just wrap it on without disturbing the wet hair). It didn't take long to get the defining part perfected but as the hair grows, sometimes you have to switch things up. It is really important to NOT touch your hair while it is drying( a very hard thing to do!).
Re: TWA problems??
Thats probably where my problem is. Because after I wash it its all slicked back and I don't like it. lol So do you use any other products as a conditioner right now? And how long have you been natural??

mstokes...take a look at this
I started doing this twice a day for the first two weeks and it really helped. Also for curl definition you may want to try a clear styling gel like ECO Styler or IC Fantasia. I use IC Fan and this is what I get

@Erica5417, I've been toying with the idea of plopping but does it work on TWAs? Right now, I've been using the shirt and gently patting my hair to get out the excess water and products. But if this works on TWAs, I may try it this weekend!
@mstokes, I hear you on the dryness... I think one thing that has totally helped me get over the hump (a little) on the dryness is using my shea butter mix or some other moisturizer at night and sealing with jojoba or Qhemet's moringa or castor oil. Because styling doesn't matter when I'm going to bed, I can do this... but these products definitely disturb my curl definition so I wouldn't do it in the morning. HTH
Re: TWA problems??
I agree with what everyone else has said. The first few weeks or months after your bc your hair will be dry. I had this problem for the first 2 months or so after my bc my hair had issues. The best I could say is to keep your hair moist and wet, baggy nightly, if you can two strand twist your hair I would suggest doing so. For some reason my hair won't stay moisturized as I want it unless it is twisted, then I can where a twist out or whatever.
Shea butter is also going to be your best friend. Hope that helps ^_^

Re: TWA problems??
Also, make sure that when your rinsing your conditioner out, your using cool water. You want the cuticle to be closed to retain moisture. I like to use conditioner, oil, and aloe gel mixed together to moisturize my hair. It workd GREAT!!! HTH

Plopping does work for TWA's, I tried it last week out of curiosity and was pleasantly surprised at how well it work, so give it a try.

Your TWA looks great!! I remember watching this video a couple weeks ago. I just tried it so hopefully I'll see a difference.
When you use your gel do you rake it thru or scrunch it or what??

I've been looking everywhere in town for some unrefined shea butter. I hate shopping online because I get carried a way lol. But I guess I might as well go ahead and do it lol

That I have been doing! I may have to try some aloe gel. I saw some in walmart but wasn't sure if it was the kind I wanted.

I love Carol's Daughter. I just stocked up at TJ Maxx! My favorite products of hers are the Tui Smoothie, Hair Milk and Healthy Hair Butter. I have also tried the Kizzy Pomade, Tui Oil, Tui Leave in conditioner, Loc Butter and just bought the Khoret Amen Oil and Lisa's Hair Elixir
The products last for a very long time so it's worth the money to me.

I just got some of the Healthy Hair butter from someone on LHCF. The smell is actually not as bad as some people made it seem. I also subscribed to your channel btw.

They were $4.99 and $5.99 at TJ Maxx! About 75% off the full retail price!!! I bought everything they had left.

Good Morning Ladies
mstokes when I apply the gel I kinda rake it through in circles, if that makes any since. My hair is not as long as yours though.

I get what you mean. I think I'll try it this morning before class to see how it comes out. Yesterday I did a WNG with no gel and I wasn't really feeling it lol. But the experimenting is fun lol.

Re: TWA problems??
Just chiming in, your hair is going to be dry approx 2 weeks after your BC....patience is the only product that is going to work right now...after 2-3 weeks you will start to retain moisture and your curls will start popping up and become more defined.....keep up the regimen you are using now and ure hair will respond....as far as gel is concerned...bc my hair is so thick the only gel I use is the S-curl Gel and Activator Spray (main ingredient is glycerin, which makes the hair soft and moisturized)...it works magic on my hair....HTH!
