Got my ends dusted, and now I have problems!!!
Ok....So I went to get my ends "dusted" due to my big chop being done with clippers. I felt like when I would played in my hair, which I can't resist, it felt a little brittle on the ends. Well, I contributed that to the way I initially cut off my hair and constant, and I mean constant manipulation. Well, after months of learning my hair, and taking the advise of the lovely ladies here, I am on my way to recovery. Don't get me wrong, I took very good care of the 1-2 inches of hair I had at the time. But, as it started to grow out a little more, I felt the need for a perfect trim to really get my mane in check.
Ok....again. So, I went to get my ends dusted, and really appreciated how the lady wanted to flat iron it to make sure it was even. But now I have some parts that don't want to curl completely up. I try to tuck it within my TWA, which works fine. But will it ever go back to curly? Or, are my precious locks permanently straight?

Its possible that your hair could go back to its curly state. How many times have you (co)washed it since then? You could try DCing and see if that helps? Sadly, it could also be heat damage if the flat iron was too hot and that is definitely permanent. Would it be noticeable if you trimmed those parts that are straight?
By the way your avatar is lovely sis!

also, its a possibility that your hairstylist didn't use an appropriate heat protectant...which could mean your hair probably won't revert back...keep us updated!!
i agree with afrikanalatina with dc-ing.

@Africanlatina...Girl!!!! I just got it dusted, and didn't want to do that. Okay...you're trying to make me cry!! lol. I've only co-washed it once since then.
@dajewel....I can tell you that she didn't use a heat protectant at all. I didn't think about it at the time.

Definitely try deep conditioning. The hair at the top of m head is nearly straight(it just grows that way) and even it starts to curl up a bit after a good DC with a thick conditioner like Cholesterol. I of course doctor it up a bit with oils and such. Give it a try. **keeping my fingers crossed for u**

Keeping my fingers crossed too. I hope its not heat damage.

@dajewel.....She actually just went at it with the flat iron. My hair is practically straight on top anyway. It has looser curls than the rest of my head. I did check out her products and everything she owned had some type of cone in it.
@AfricanLatina & Lynnielove....I will try the conditioning and thank you for all of your support!

cones are generally used for their heat protectant properties (amongst other properties), but some cones can withstand high temps better than others. so, we don't know for sure what cones the products had. regardless, she didn't use a heat protectant

i like CHI 44 iron guard...its expensive though...like $12adiaha wrote:So for future reference, whats a good heat protectant for when/if I decide to straighten my hair?
it doesnt have cones. i dont think.
ingredients:
water, sodium polystyrene sulfonate, SD alcohol 40-B, propylene glycol, polysorbate 20, ppg-20 methyl glucose ether, disodium edta, hydrolyzed silk, hydrolized wheat protein, pg-propyl silanetriol, fragrance, diazolidinyl urea, methylparaben, propylparaben, methylcloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, ceramic.
whoa after typing all that out i cant pronounce half of it and idk what they are =/
it works good though.
another one is Proclaim Glossing Polish with heat/color protectant. i ran out of it but i liked it alot and thats what the Dominicans used to use for my blowouts....chock full of cones though

i quickly scanned the ingredients for the first products, and i don't like it because of the SD alcohol 40-B; this is one of the alcohols that can actually dry out your hair. they prolly put this in the product to help make the product disperse out of the spray bottle.
based on my memory, the second is very good, as the first couple of ingredients are silicones while the rest are very nurturing (essential oils, conditioning agents, etc).

Wow, see stories like this make me want to stay away from the salon at all costs. You have to find someone who trully understands natural hair. I've been searching for that stylist.
I hope the damage is not permanent. Do what the ladies here suggest DC like crazy.
Like everyone else, I'll keep my fingers crossed.
I love the avatar too!

I agree with Blonde. Get rid of that stylist! If she had the hands for growing she would have known to use a heat protectant. Even we know that and she's suppose to be the professional. I haven't straighten my hair in nearly a year and don't plan until my BC. I think blowdrying will be necessary for my next weave install.
