Hair Growth Challenge!! - Starting Oct. 1 ( or sometime this weekend) till April 1, 2011

Hey ladies
I'm transitioning and thought i'd join in for the support of growing my hair, i have some straight ends left, i did cut the crown couple days ago, about an inch but im still gonna keep growing as dont want a BC myself, had short hair for a couple of years...This is my hair Aug 09 and then here is a pic 30 Sep 10 - however, I havent been transitioning this whole time - so I will go by the recent pic for my hair growth challenge - how often you ladies checking your growth?

What causes thin ends? I thought that it was something I did or the color, but I re-read your post and I guess I missed it the last time. What contributed to your thin ends? Just curious....

Welcome!!! My original plan was to retain 3 inches of growth by April 2011. So I am going to do a length check this weekend and another in April. I am going to start another thread tomorrow, where we can encourage each other, post updates, or even journal. I will be posting a link to it!!!

I think it's my natural breakage point! Even when I was relaxed when my hair reached shoulder length the ends got thin and wispy (split ends). Plus, cutting the split ends kept my hair the same length for years. I got to arm put length once but my hair was so thin at the ends!!

Furthermore, hair deteriorates slowly but surely and the ends are the oldest part of our hair. Plus, our natural oil, sebum does not travel down our coils/curls/kinks. So I'm really going to step up the protection and to be sure I'm doing it correctly is to track the growth!!!

Great!! This is what I'll be doing, I know everything is not for everybody! So feel free to do what works for you! The main objective is not to do any harm to your hair, protect the ends, and nourish it!!


Cleanse scalp weekly
Wash hair while braided

Deep Conditioner weekly with heat
Protein Treatments every 4-6 weeks

Sealing
Jamaican Black Castor Oil
Olive Oil

Protective Styling
-twist
-buns
-crochet braids

Which link shall I use for this challenge? This on or the other?
I just measured and the back of my hair (at the bottom, back of my neck) I stretched it straight with not too much tension either and it's at 4 and a half inches, so wowwww if it gets to 7 and a half.. Eeeeeeeeek!

I am also trying to achieve growth and maintaining healthy natural hair. My daughter who will be 13 in december is natural as well. She loves her natural hair, however she is not up to trying alternative style besides wngs.

CocoEuro or to anyone for that matter (Im a newbie) and am interested in the details and recipie and instructions for the henna. do you use it more for the color or the protein its supposed to provide

I pushed my hair back with the top of a knee high and put these goody headbands for detail

Hey!!! I used Jamilla Henna, I mix it with lemon juice. I got my recipe from Butters-N-Bars, which is where I also order my henna from. A lot of ladies on here use different items such as yogurt, orange juice, etc. I use it to color my grays, control frizz, and has a deep deep deep conditioner! There is also a henna thread here on CN for more info!! Henna. Good luck with it!!
