Re: SisterBoyd
Hey ladies! I'm back from my online break and my back is feel a lot better. This one was horrible!
Ok I told the ladies in the 35 and older thread that I went and got my new batch of cellophane. Yes sirreee bob! I got that Red Red!!!! So I'll do it just before the LA Meet Up so be prepare hahahaha I was so tempted to get that honey blonde. That was my color for years and last year I just decided to do something different and went with the red. You can't really see the red that much in the pictures I've posted. The ladies will see just how red it is next month.
In hair news - we're doing well. I've gone back to my first love KCCC and glycern/aloe mix. However, I'm moisturizing with QB Heavy Cream and using my OCM oil to seal at least once before I wash, sometimes twice. I'm still washing every 4 days. The past few washes have gone really well when I detangle; which has really surprised me. I don't know if its the KCCC, the heavy cream, or the weather...but I'm sure not complaining
Ok off to a meeting...that I called...on a beautiful Saturday no doubt. What the heck was I thinking?
Smooches!

Re: SisterBoyd
I think I'll be doing Red, Red this Friday! Woo hoooo!!!!!
Nubie, its fairly easy. I prepoo, shampoo once, then apply the cellophane, rinse, cowash, dC, and then apply more cowash conditioner to detangle if I didn't do it with the DC. It usually takes me a good part of the day because I move slow on these days.
I'm still so afraid of heat that I don't sit under the dryer. Plus, its just too hot for that! I usually workout with the cellophane on and I generate enough heat to make it work.
The thing with cellophane is the more you use it the more you see it and the color plays a huge role. My natural hair is pretty light so I see mine. Remember cellophane is a reflective color so it reflects off of lights normally. However, I cellophane every other month so mine fades but it has penetrated my cuticle layer so I have new growth.
HTH Nubie
Yayyyy!!!! Keisha!!!!!

Re: SisterBoyd
Ok ladies I did the Red, Red! It came out pretty good. I forgot how dark it looks when I first do it and its still wet. It will lighten up by the LA Meet Up this coming Saturday; I'll wash it before then.
As I was rinsing my hair I told myself that I was going to go back to blonde. hahahaha Let's see what happens when I finish this new bottle
Also, I trimmed my ends. I didn't dust I trimmed. I actually saw a split end! How in the heck did that happen?!?!?!?! I had noticed that needed a trim a few month ago, but didn't do it. So I just did it today. My hair is still wet so we'll see what I look like tomorrow.
Oh and I'm not posting pictures of Red, Red until the LA Curly Meet up ;p

Re: SisterBoyd
Yes, Ryl...Red, Red! hahahaha. Hopefully it will fade a bit when I wash it this weekend. I forgot how dark it can get.
I'm so excited about the meet up I don't know what to do with myself. I've been playing with the idea of big hair or super defined and elongated. So some other product or KCCC. Hahahaha Big, huge decisions! Then, I need to decide what to wear. Its supposed to be warm and sunny on Saturday after raining the first part of the week. And ya'll know I don't like to put on clothes so I'm not trying to be covered from head-to-toe. Ugh! Just the thought is making it hard to breathe
On another note - In my morning chat with the Lord I've decided that I'm going to take the reign on one portion of the negativity that bothers me so much. So with a bit of sadness I've decided that I'm no longer going to support comedians who bash women, specifically black women. So folks like Monique, HL Hughley, DRey, Sheryle Underwood, and a host of others will no longer get my money for movies, stand-up, or anything else. I'm still debating about watching their shows on TV.
It bothered me a lot with the recent shows that I've seen that I can't say that there were at least 5 comedians who didn't do the black women don't or black women's attitudes or just as bad Becky will do and Becky with let me and Becky will give me. Too much negativity and division for this lil heart. And ya'll know I love my black comedy...but I just can't do it right now. So in addition to keeping my black woman dollars I will be praying for my brothers and sisters who feel the need to profit off of degrading and disrepecting our women and actually themselves.

Very deep...thanks for posting it. I don't know why we seem to get the worst treatment...by the media, our own comedians, films, etc.

Re: SisterBoyd
Cyclingchick...from our own? Because we have been taught to hate ourselves and to worship everything that isn't like us. We still hold on to the affects of slavery, as much as we really don't want to believe it we do. I see it so clearly in my work with breastfeeding families. The things that we say to our children and to each other may use different terms, but the meanings are the same. We're still in surivivor mode and have passed down this thinking that was onced used to keep us alive, but now that same thinking is killing us.
This past Saturday I attended an screening of Unnatural Causes: When the Bough Breaks with a panel discussion on racial health disparities specifically in the AA community and female reproductive health. I've heard it several times in my work that we hold the stress from racism within our bodies and its killing us and our babies. Black women lead in all reproductive cancers and chronic diseases when compared to all other races of women. The trick is that we think the racism is from outside, but we receive a lot of racism from within. And this is a very serious racism that we don't want to admit that we're experiencing.
Its one thing to go to the outside world and experience racism. We know its there. But when we come home we're not prepared for it. What does it do to us when we're already stressed from our daily lives where we experience racism daily; whether obvious or sutble. But then to come home, turn on the TV and hear a chick that looks like you, checks the same box as you, will tell you she's you and then she makes the statement that you need to learn from the white woman because the white woman is perfect...and then she qualifies her statement of the white woman with the white woman does a specific sex act. You don't turn the TV off, you keep watching. So 3-4 men come behind this chick and they say the very same thing. So by the time you finish watching the show you may have laughed, but deep down in your spirit and soul are you feeling uplifted? Are you feeling strong, appreciated, and wanted? I doubt it. So do you watch it again? Do you buy tickets to the next event. Get dressed and sit in the presence of those who say these things about you? How do you feel afterwards? We don't need to go to work or sit in the midst of those from other races to harm us emotionally and mentally...we'll just sit in the midst of our own. Like Ryl said, its going to be hard to find a comedian who will not include the black woman ain't jack part to his act. We tear our ownselves up.
One of the things that the panelist said and I know its true because I've read some of the studies by the CDC...black women on average have higher stress hormones than all other race of women. Black immigrant women will have to same stress level, health complications, and poor birth outcomes that your average AA women by the 2nd generation of being in the US. We have to find the 'fix' for ourselves. We can't make anyone else love us...we have to love us ourselves. If that means letting go of the ignorance and negativity then that's what we need to do. If someone feels that we're being mean tell them that its a matter of life or death for you. The comedians that I named can be funny as heck without that one part in their show. Steve Harvey gets a lot of bad press because of the things he says, but I follow him closely and not once have I heard him degrade black women. But I have heard him come out and denounce the horrible rap lyrics about us. So there is hope. But until they get the picture we have to look out for ourselves.
Yes, we have issues. We need healing emotionally, mentally, relationally, economically, physically and culturally. But I would never want to be another race of woman and I'm proud to call black women my sisters...so I'm taking this stand.

thanx SB for that tip on the cellophane! im gonna try it again maybe tomorrow if im not busy . knh gave me her bottle so i'll continue to use til its all gone before i henna OR i might just go ahead n henna n still use the cellophane cuz i love the color she gets n i know she used the cello first.
on another note...**standing ovation** i really appreciate u bringin that to life becuz ur right, we DO ignore the obvious (i hope u submit that to nikki to post) and the sad part is, we pass this racism down to our kids and/or they learn it as they grow older. this is the first site that i've come to where i've never felt more welcomed by a bunch of women in my life. even goin to meetups its just amazing at the genuine welcomes u get among females u've never met before. it motivates me to just pass the love.
the state that women are in now, the disrespectful n degradin level is just at an all time high (thanx 2 live crew) and we laugh n joke about it cuz its mainly true for the MAJORITY but what about the classy ones who dont take part in grabbin attn by appearin half naked or the ones who actually show respect for their bodies. we live in the times where sex sells and image is everything. for comedians to bash us is just an easy go to joke. i loooove steve harvey though, he definitely keeps it real and i appreciate his book cuz i learned alot from it too. he comes from a different time and u can tell his peeps raised him well. i wont even get started on these wack azz rap lyrics...HORRRRIBLE. its all about sex, backin it up on a handstand or some crazy azz crap n these little girls eatin it up!
im soooo feelin u though and i appreciate u takin the time out to bring awareness n bringin it to light

Now Nubie you are doing a lot with the cellophane and henna. Are you sure you can put those two together. I never heard of that. What color are you going to use?
I never thought about submitting anything to Nikki...ummmm *thinking*
I did post a thank on you Steve's FB page, I have it on mine, and I posted a thank you to First Lady Obama for her bringing attention to the breastfeeding disparity rates within our community and how its linked to our obesity rates.
If we don't speak up then who will?
And you're right about this site being filled with welcoming women and our meet ups are the same. We all may not mesh to the point where we're on everyone's page, but when we do come in contact its super cool and I love that!
...and Saturday is going to be great!!!!!

Hey ladies! Its been a minute. I enjoyed my worship retreat this past weekend! The Lord did wonderful things. We had a great time in the Lord
With all of the crying and praying I wasn't focused on being cute hahaha!!! However, I wore a fresh KCCC Friday night and know by Saturday night this hair needed some attention. I was going to cowash and CO with Tresseme, but had to do some follow up from the retreat to I didn't have time to do my hair. I'll try to get to it today.
Ya'll I'm loving this Red, Red! I just might have to put the blonde down another season

Re: SisterBoyd
Well I did do my hair yesterday. I cowashed with VO5, then I conditioned with Uncle Funky's Daughter's Richie Rich and a little VO5 for slip. Then, I did my first apple cidar vinegar rinse. Then, I followed with some more Richie Rich and VO5 to detangle one more time.
The ACV rinse really didn't do anything for me - maybe I didn't it wrong. My hair is soft and feels moisturized, but nothing stands out to me.
I really didn't style. I was running late and I wanted to give my hair a rest...and I just didn't feel like doing much to my hair. I squirted some aloe/glycerin mix, appled Tresseme Naturals to the length of my hair and followed with my OCM oil blend to seal. Pinned it up and that was it.
Today, I brushed it up into a high ponytail, spritz the ponytail and sealed with the same oil. I'm done!
I'll actually do my hair on Saturday since I'm planning on attending CurlyChronicles meet up that evening
