Hi Big sister to be

My name is Andrena. I've had locs for 9 years and am now in the process of taking them down. I would love to have a big sister because I'm already freaking out. I'm overwhelmed with how to take care of my hair. I have no clue.

I'm living in London and about to move to North East of UK in Lincoln. I don't mind if you're in the USA because I'm always online.

Many Thanks and can't wait!

Hi there. What is your number one concern? Tell me a bit about your hair before you let your hair loc? Please let me know what specifically you would like from a big sis. I will do my best to help you.

Hi

Thanks!

My number one concern right now is keeping my hair moisturise. Another one is finding the right products and regime.

I can't even remember how my hair was before it was locs. My mum, for one thing, followed the wrong hair regime... lots of shampoo, combing with a fine teeth comb, using grease, no leave in conditioner or oils etc. All I remember was that my natural hair strands were very fine. My hair was relaxed at age 11 in 1993.

Right now i'm feeling very overwhelm as the locs are being taken out one by one. Sometimes I get frustrated... My main fear is that I wouldn't know which products my hair needs and that my regime would become unmanageable.

I guess mainly I'd like support in developing a comfortable hair regime and initial advice on what products I should use. Hopefully, I'll get a boost of confidence.

Right now, my hair still doesn't know that it's free... it gets matted so easily.

I am not familiar with fine hair personally. I would suggest protein treatments. Some common ones are eggs, mayonnaise and avocado. You could try a mix of all three and leave it on your hair for ten minutes once a week. You could use a leave in with some protein.

Please remember to use a moisturizing conditioner after you do a protein treatment.

If your hair mats easily try to cleanse while your hair is in large twisted sections. For instance, part hair into four then twist. Cleanse hair in sections. When you are ready to detangle, add lots of conditioner to each section. When you finish retwist the section.

Apply your moisturizer and seal with hair oil or hair butter.
