Post by traveljunkie08 10th January 2010, 3:52 pm

@Erica: That's okay. At least you've decided to give it away. I think it's probably hardest to resist TJ Maxx and Marshall's for the very reason you mentioned: you don't know how long they're going to have stuff. But, I've been seeing those large bottles of Gio since the summer, so they may be around for a while. Also, I decided I don't like buying large bottles of anything because it seems to take FOREVER to use them, which means I can't try a new product sooner. Wink

@Nubie: I want to go on that cruise line too!!! It just seems like one of those "must do" things to put on your list. I also love the idea of a curly cruise. That would be soooo much fun. Let's do it! As far as the Curls line, it'll still be around if you want to try it after your challenge. Try not to be swayed by "miraculous" testimonies. Smile

@MissFierce21: Welcome to the challenge!

Your twists look great! I decided to stop co-washing so much, so not sure how I'm going to use up all this stuff either. I'll probably just re-evaluate my stash at the end of March and toss half used stuff that I wasn't crazy about and donate unused items.

Welcome to the challenge CurlyMo!

You definitely need to stay away from the BSS, the hair aisle on your shopping trips, and the "products" and "pjism" thread on this forum. You have enough stuff to last your for the next six months. LOL! You may need to extend your challenge to for a couple more months. Have you tried all these products?

To my fellow challengers....I have a question. I need your permission to purchase a new product. My hair needs protein. I have used my ORS Replenishing Conditioner and Organix Coconut Milk conditioner and my hair is still needs more protein. Giovanni Smooth as Silk was suggested to me and I want to give it a try. What do you guys think? BTW, Roxie (my hair's new name) is in mini twist right now that I plan to wear for the next two weeks so I wouldnt purchase it until then. The other products I have dont have enough protein in them.

Let me know your thoughts.

4.
Protein Treatment for Hair
ingredients:
Amla powder - 2tsp.

While you have conditioners, you do not have any with a sufficient amount of protein so I am okay with it. Egg and mayonnaise do work though.

Lynnie, you have to take care of Roxie. If she needs protein, buy her some. The challenge is to avoid the unnecessary products we all buy. The smooth as silk will probably work pretty well.

@CurlyMo: Welcome to the challenge. I definitely think you need to extend your challenge date several months. You have a really great list of products that will probably all work great for you. Did you just get this stuff over the last week or have you been buying since you've been transitioning?

@Lynnie: If you don't want to try an at-home treatment, definitely get the SAS.

Post by CurlyMo 11th January 2010, 12:45 pm

@traveljunkie08~

Thank you for welcoming me into your challenge this is great!

No i have been buying since my transition began in August so over the last 6 months....

Thanks to Erica who sent me the link on this thread im on my way to recovery!!! LOL

Your right I will try to go for a few months you all can keep me honest and continue to support me after yours ends in March i think i can do it... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I notice a few things i could use some help with though from reading through this thread

I dont know what conditioners i can leave-in and ones i cant and clearly dont know what to buy for stylers i.e. gels and that sort of stuff im just using condish for everything co-wash,deep condish, even stylers everything..

Also~How can i tell that my hair needs protein lor has too much ike Lynnieluve did? If my hair is dry i just sprits and add a little more condish LOL

If anyone has the time can you please give me some advise based on my list of course IM NOT BUYING ANYTHING!! LOL

CHALLENGE: Use Your Stash - Page 6 Empty Re: CHALLENGE: Use Your Stash

Post by Lynnieluve 11th January 2010, 12:53 pm

Here is a convo I had with ChrsLvsBks -it explains how you know if your hair needs moisture vs protein.

ChrsLvsBks wrote:
Lynnieluve wrote:Big Sis, I have a question. Can
you give me the run down on how you know when your hair needs moisture
vs protein? I remember you saying something about if it snaps
then_____, and if it stretches then____. Where the blanks are is what I
need you to fill in. LOL!! Thanks a bunch.
If
it snaps quickly when wet, it needs moisture. If it stretches a lot
before snapping, up your protein. If you pull it and makes a snap
sound, your moisture/protein balance is fine. As for time between
stretching and snapping, I would think hair shouldn't snap after a
second or two of pulling it, and I would think hair should not stretch
for more than 10 seconds, give or take based on length of hair. I
suggest using recent shed hairs but I sometimes pull hair from
different zones (ear; nape and crown).

Kea wrote:YES!!! to add onto Lynn's question...

When
I watch youtube videos, etc. i love the springy curls that a lot of
ladies with tighter curls (4a/b?...i'm not good with hair types) seem
to have. When I pull my curls they DO curl back on themselves...but
they don't spring back quickly. i don't know my hair type, but i do
seem to have somewhat loose curls. So, i'm not sure if my "lack of
spring" is just the nature of my hair, or if it means that something is
wrong?

--->love the flat twists &&& bun!!!
Your
hair may not snap back quickly if your curls are looser. They should
snap back though. If they do not, you can add some protein over time.
Do not skip the moisture in the process.

The
front of my hair is looser, and finding the right balance has been
difficult. I have to determine the overall look I want to achieve to
know how much or little to add their. The hair above my ears and and my
hair line, love moisture so I have to be careful not to add too much
protein. To top it all off, I have grays intermixed in my hair so they
are a whole 'nother story.
