CHALLENGE: Use Your Stash Empty CHALLENGE: Use Your Stash

Post by traveljunkie08 1st January 2010, 10:47 pm

Are you up to your elbows in conditioner? Are you drowning in a sea of oils? Do you immediately run to the hair care aisle when you enter a store? Do you hide your hair care purchases from your significant other? Can you run a small beauty supply store out of your home? If so, then join me and Lynnieluve and challenge yourself to USE YOUR STASH.

The purpose of this challenge is to decrease your stash before buying and trying new products. Of course, you can do this by using the products you currently have on hand. Or, you can donate them or give them away.

If you're ready to get your PJ'ism under control, then let's get started! To participate in this challenge:

1. Create a reply in this thread.

2. Indicate when you plan to begin and end your challenge.

3. State your challenge goals.

4. List your current stash according to these categories:
    - Shampoo(s)
    - Co-Wash Conditioner(s)
    - Deep Conditioner(s)/Hair Treatment(s)
    - Leave-in(s)
    - Oil(s)
    - Moisturizer(s)
    - Styler(s) (e.g. gel, mousse, etc.)
    - Misc.
5. Track your progress. As you use products, donate them or give them away, edit your reply to update your stash list.

There’s only one rule you to which you MUST adhere: Only buy/replace a product in any category when you’re down to your last bottle. Note: Use only what works for your hair. If a product is obviously not working for you or has an adverse effect on your hair’s health, please do not continue to use it just to use your stash. Toss it, give it away or return it, if possible.

Be sure to check-in and let us know how things are going. Provide any tips/suggestions you think will help other challenge participants. And definitely ask for support and encouragement to make sure you stay on track.

Good luck!!!!!!

Consider that a good thing and use this challenge to keep it that way! I really didn't know I had that much stuff until I started listing it. I've developed a bad habit of buying something, using it once or twice and then buying something else.

I really, really like it. I used it a lot when I was transitioning. The problem is that it is full of cones, so I haven't used it since I did the BC in October. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to keep it or add it to the "donate" box.

Siren, I am sorry to inform you, you are NOT a Product Junkie (the way Allison says it on the Biggest Loser) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] You are welcome to stay and participate in the challenge.

The best deep conditioner I've tried is the one suggested by DaJewel....olive oil and coconut oil.

CHALLENGE: Use Your Stash Empty don't judge me!!! :)

Post by blondie 2nd January 2010, 6:06 am

You really, really, REALLY, don't want me to start listing proucts. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] The bad thing is, I just ordered a boatload of stuff (Curls, Koils by Nature, My Honey Child, Uncle Funky's Daughter) I RARELY buy stuff in the stores, most of my stuff is ordered. Since I can't just stroll down the street to get mine, they are my babies.

I have them on my infamous shelves, I have them in all bathroom cabinets just so if I happen to do my do in that bathroom, I won't have to walk across the hall to my products!

Also, since I have to order mine, and some take a minute (Oyin, Qhemet) I stock up. I won't mention what product, but I have 12+ 16 oz bottle of it, 5 jars of a particular pomade, and usually 3-4 32oz bottles of my beloved fav conditioner.

I have "hair salve" issues, serious ones. Although I cannot participate in this challenge, I wish you all the best of luck! Smile

CHALLENGE: Use Your Stash Empty Re: CHALLENGE: Use Your Stash

Post by traveljunkie08 2nd January 2010, 10:53 am

I forgot about a couple things, so I need to edit my list.

@Erica5417: I know how you feel about Marshall's & TJ Maxx. I love a good bargain. I will be avoiding both as much as possible over the next three months. Are you sure you aren't ready to challenge yourself to go two months?

@Nubie: I'm sorry but I was cracking up at your post. When my nephews started refusing to go to any store with me b/c I'd drag them through the hair care aisle, I knew I had a problem. Imagine if you could get your stash down to just your holy grails...

CHALLENGE: Use Your Stash Empty Re: CHALLENGE: Use Your Stash

Post by Erica5417 2nd January 2010, 1:48 pm

@Traveljunkie08...well, since you just gon' call a sista out, lol. I can try for two months with one exception--I am low on shea butter and my family has to have it (best thing in the world for dry skin). You and NubieNatty didn't help by listing the EO condish that I've been eyeing at TJ Maxx. But I'm going to pretend I didn't read that.
