how do you use honey???
ok so finally while out I reminded myself to pick up some honey from the store for my hair..I always hear naturals talk about how honey makes their hair so shiny and soft but always forget to pick me up some..but anywayz I plan on pre-pooing my hair on my wash day (which is Saturday or Sunday) with honey!! (love trying new things)..also i ran across an article on honey which stated
"You can add honey to your conditioners, gels, detanglers, shampoos and other water based products for added moisture and shine to your hair."
so my question is how do you ladies use honey?? oh and Im guessing distributing honey on hair would be tough because it so sticky..should i mix it with something (maybe w/ oils) to help distribute it in my hair?? and should i even be using honey during the winter since it is a humectant??

Re: how do you use honey???
I use honey as an ingredient in my avocado conditioner. The conditioner includes: avocado, coconut milk, honey, olive oil, coconut oil. I love love love this mixture. I don't measure anything, I just mix to my heart's content
My hair comes out super soft, shiny, and very light feeling. I love it. I haven't done it in awhile, think I'll do it on Sunday. Thanks for the reminder

I use honey as a conditioner. I either mix it with warm evoo (equal parts), or add it to whatever conditioner i am using. I've never used it as a pre poo so im not sure how that will work, but you should definately use some kind of oil with it to help it distribute evenly. hth

Re: how do you use honey???
I've mixed honey in my conditioners and moisture mix.. I also plan to start doing a honey rinse when I rinse out my DC.. It's just 2 tbsp of honey to 2 cups of warm water pour that over your head and don't rinse out..
I've even added honey to my eco-styler gel.. I plan to make a honey aloe vera gel once I get the ingredients I need.. I saw this on you tube..

I usually add honey and EVOO to my conditioner when I pre poo. I've even added a little to my deep conditioner before.
You dont want to apply honey alone to your hair.

When you mix honey with other products, for whatever reason, it's not sticky and it doesnt smell sweet.

Re: how do you use honey???
@ blkbeauty, I was gonna ask the same thing....I thought that if it's left in your hair it would become sticky and not only attract flies but more lint!! making you have to wash/cowash more frequently. That's interesting and I wonder why that's not the case as Lynnie said. Hmmm....things that make you say Hmmmm!!! Y'all remember that from way back on Arsenio Hall??? LOL
Re: how do you use honey???
I use honey in all the ways mentioned above as well as a face masque and add it to my body wash and luv it!
Are you guys familiar with QB's product olive and honey hydrating balm? Key ingredient---honey.
I now make my own comparable (or getting there) honey balm b/c the softness and the sheen is absolutely wonderful and no issues with insects, stickiness, or lint.

Re: how do you use honey???
I add it to my deep conditioner along with oil, but now I see that it can be used in other ways. I'm going to start adding it to my body wash. I bought this 'natural' body wash that supposedly has shea butter in it and it is sooo drying. I used it for like 3 days and just couldn't take it anymore. I'm going to pull it back out and see if honey makes a difference.

Gross out alert!!!!
Perhaps flying things are not attracted to bee vomit.
Honey bees form nectar into honey by a process of regurgitation

Re: how do you use honey???
be careful- honey has the same properties as a "Bleach". I mixed some (organic local grown) into a conditioner. It lightened my sisters JET Black hair.
Her hair was the color of someone that recently applied henna.

Re: how do you use honey???
I bought mine from Whole Foods, it has crystals in it which I don't like because it feels a little rough. Next time I'm going to get regular honey in the bear bottle that I usually use for my tea .rayray19 wrote:oh yea and are yall using regular store bought honey??

Re: how do you use honey???
Lynnieluve, how often do you prepoo with the honey during the winter (weekly etc)? And does it create any dryness? I have a difficult time keeping moisture, porous hair. But I am sealing my hair much better now and wearing more protective styles like my avatar, so I do not want to do anything to counteract what I have been doing these last couple of months. Thanks

Re: how do you use honey???
I use honey a multitude of ways! I mix it my shea butter and conditioner. I use it to mix in my honey/sugar scrub to exfoliate my face. It's a great natural humectant and it works wonders during the humid summer months when mixed with other products.
Re: how do you use honey???
i use raw organic honey in my deep conditioners
when i used to use henna, i added some in there as well

Re: how do you use honey???
@ Rayray, I use the real stuff. Raw honey is good. the darker the honey the better it is for you. And I have ALWAYS loved to just eat honey off a spoon. YUM!!
@ NylaCoils, I read that too, that honey can lighten you hair. I may use it a lot in the summer then to give me a sun kissed glow!!!
@ Dyamonds hair is so pretty in your avatar. Is that rod sets??? Very nice.
