yes the homemade treatment does the same thing.
this is what i use: Mayo/2eggs/olive oil/honey/cheapie condish.
I protein treat. then rinse w/cool water then shampoo and DC.
This protein treat delivers a high amount of protein w/out the extreme strawlike feeling that you get from bss protein treats. But you still should DEFINATELY DC afterwards. I started using this treat when i was trasitioning, between braid installs

Do you get under the dryer with this?

@JessiWantsCurls - I don't think you would want to have heat on your hair with the eggs Shocked That may not turn out so good Smile Seriously, the last time I did an egg treatment, I put the mixture in and put a plastic baggy and let it sit for about 30 min and then rinsed with cool water. I'm going to be doing it again today. My hair felt really moisturized and my twists held really well the next day.

lol ... I thought it sounded dumb when I typed it, but I'm so use to getting under the dryer for that kinda stuff that I had to ask.

@JessiWantsCurls

It is better to ask than to end up rinsing cooked egg out of your hair. A workaround could be applying the egg solo, rinsing it out with cool water and then applying the other ingredients and getting under the dryer.

I try to stay away from protein because it dries my hair so badly I am wondering now should it be done or is it necessary

I see a lot of women on youtube speak about protein treatments, but what is the purpose of using them? Is it only for people who apply heat to their hair? I don't use any heat to my hair so is it neccessary for me to do it? confused
