Protein Treatments
Hi guys so right now I'm just finishing up my first protein treatment. I'm not sure if I like how I did it though. I followed Mllecafeaulait on youtube and bought the Ion protein reconstructor. On the bottle it says to shampoo and then put in the treatment then rinse. But she puts the product in first and watch her hair revert back into curls (3b) then shampoo and condition. I did this and as a 4a/b I kind of had a scare. Since my hair is more coiled it took longer to revert and my front only came back in waves. However right when I got under the water my hair went back to my afro state so now I'm rethinking Mllecafeaulait's process. Do you guys use the bottle instructions? Or do you do something differently?

Re: Protein Treatments
hey deeplyrootedchick. I have always been scared to try this protein stuff cuz I don't know what it will do to my hair. My hair seems to be healthy (minus the shedding/breakage-LOL-it's getting better now) but I am just hesitant to do one. Was this something you had to think long and hard about or did you just do it??? Have you ever heard of anyone doing it and it messed their hair up?
Re: Protein Treatments
I did it because a girl did my hair blow dried it without heat protectant. I have been told it is good to do a treatment before and after you use head so that's what I plan on doing nothing else. After I rinsed my hair of the treatment I felt fine with it. I just washed and deep conditioned because I havent cowashed all week and my hair loves its conditioner.
But idk if deep conditioning is smart because it is the opposite of protein treatment, but I'm going to do it for a shorter time than usual. : /

Re: Protein Treatments
Oh ok so you were just trying to correct or prevent the heat damage form happening? I hear ya. Do you know of any other protein tx that may be a gentle version?
Re: Protein Treatments
Hey girl! I use Aphogee Protein treatments and I follow the directions to the letter!! I am not familiar with the brand you use... I would have to say always go with what the manufacturer suggests as they would know the best way to use it.

Re: Protein Treatments
Hey Deeply rooted chick,
I haven't used the Ion protein reconstructor but I have used Aphoghee and Nexxus Emergencee in the past. I've always shampooed first before using a reconstructor. The directions on the bottle said to leave the product in for 5 minutes and I actually left mine in for 15.
Next time make sure you use a heat protectant with blow drying so you won't damage your hair. Most people use protein after using heat to make sure their hair reverts back. Also you have to deep condition after a protein treatment because protein will dry your hair and you need to put moisture back in your hair with a deep conditioner. You don't have to deep condition for a long time10-15 minutes with heat should be fine.

Don't wait, its better to deep condition your hair right after the protein treatment.

Re: Protein Treatments
What's the consistency of your homemade treatment? I crave something thicker than what I am using. It makes quite a nice mess...

Re: Protein Treatments
sorry 4 the late response girls, to answer your Qs:
yes the homemade treatment does the same thing.
this is what i use: Mayo/2eggs/olive oil/honey/cheapie condish.
I protein treat. then rinse w/cool water then shampoo and DC.
This protein treat delivers a high amount of protein w/out the extreme strawlike feeling that you get from bss protein treats. But you still should DEFINATELY DC afterwards. I started using this treat when i was trasitioning, between braid installs

Re: Protein Treatments
@ambitious the treat. is not too thick, but you can make it a lil thicker by adding more condish. I do b/c i like creamier consistencies.

Hi there! How have you been doing? I'm doing my egg treatment today but lost my mixture receipe. What were the amounts of your ingredients that you used? Mine didn't include the mayo but I think I may try it. It's been about 3 mos since I've had one.
