Girl-- we are exposed to all kinds of stuff and don't even know it. People are being diagnosed with cancer and although it is not highlighted so many people are being diagnosed with breast cancer, it is frightening. Really, if it was anything else, it would be called an epidemic. That little H1N1 scare was escalated to PANDEMIC, but all the medical sources (science sources) are estimating 1 in every 8 women (United States) WILL get breast cancer during her lifetime. Now, what is that if not an epidemic. Believe me, I see it every day!

Re: Useful sources to empower you regarding ingredients in hair products
You guys are not going to believe this, but I just saw an email in my inbox that relates to my previous post here. It is from the Environmental Working Group. You can sign up for newletters. I copy and past it here:
Dear Friend,
There are many great breast cancer resources on the web. Here are some of our favorites:
BreastCancer.org: A go-to resource for up-to-date information about breast cancer
Breast Cancer Action: A leading watchdog of breast cancer policy
Breast Cancer Fund: A fantastic review of the connection between breast cancer and the environment
Keep a Breast: Using art events and educational programs, they seek to increase breast cancer awareness among young people
Cancer Schmancer: Actor and breast cancer survivor Fran Drescher's campaign for education, prevention and early detection
One in eight American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some time during her life. This month pink banners fly worldwide to celebrate the survivors, raise awareness for prevention and lobby for essential research -- and in support of those women who must face this disease.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an important time for Environmental Working Group. Earlier this year, the President's Cancer Panel reported that "the true burden of environmentally induced cancers has been grossly underestimated" and strongly urged better protection from potential carcinogens in our food, water, air and consumer products. In an allusion to EWG's landmark study, the panel noted that "babies are born 'pre-polluted'."
At EWG, we're committed to reforming federal policy on toxic chemicals and helping you reduce exposure to harmful contaminants.
Click here to read EWG's Cancer Prevention Tips.
Our groundbreaking research into umbilical cord blood has found that children are being born pre-polluted with nearly 300 industrial chemicals, pesticides and contaminants, many of which have been found to cause cancer in lab studies or in people. Cancer rates in the United States are unacceptably high. Many scientists suspect that environmental pollutants may be a major culprit.
This month, EWG is happy to shine a light on an informative new resource, Breast Cancer: The Path of Wellness & Healing, produced by Nina Montée Karp, Joyce Ostin, Dr. Harvey Karp and Michael Ostin. This two-disc DVD set explores the breast cancer experience, from diagnosis through treatment and recovery to inspirational testimonials from survivors and their family members. With background and analysis from the country's premiere doctors and wellness experts, the DVDs provide a wealth of knowledge.
The Path of Wellness & Healing is a philanthropic endeavor, with all proceeds from sales going to charity. The DVD set is being offered at a reduced price during October. Half the proceeds will benefit EWG, you can use the code EWGSALE when you check out. Ordering a copy of this remarkable DVD set is a great way to educate yourself and spread awareness in your community about breast cancer, while supporting the vital work of EWG.

Smh, even my makeup isn't safe. This is infuriating that companies can get away with this. Sadly, other countries might be worse.

Here is another informative site that is helpful when reading these multiple syllable ingredients: http://www.terressentials.com/ingredientguide.html
Note: Don't be too alarmed if you see one of your fav oils on the "to be avoided list" Stick with organic/unrefined and that should remove concerns about unsafe processing methods such as using hexane extraction methods. Nothing like an informed consumer!

Re: Useful sources to empower you regarding ingredients in hair products
www.goodguide.com is a great site to check out if you are wondering about any of your products whether personal or for the home. They rate them based on health, safety and environment.
We are seeing huge changes not just in terms of increase of disease, but gender changes in our unborn babies. Pthalate exposure for pregnant women leads to increases in allergies of the babies, premature breast development in girls, and demasculinization of boys (genital changes, low sperm count.)
But know that a label doesn't have to say pthalate if they are in the product. If an ingredient list says "fragrance" or "parfum" that is a pthalate.

Thanks kekesmum. Yes, corporate America is definitely sneeky. They don't believe in full disclosure. When a law is passed, they find a way around it and people continue to be diagnosed with cancers at record rates!
