Too dark for curls? Empty Too dark for curls?

Post by krissyc39 9th August 2010, 1:18 pm

I was talking to my cousin as she was straightening my hair
yesterday (I'm a bad girl I know) and although I love her natural hair,
she says she's gonna perm it eventually. I told her about curlynikki
and twist-n-curls and rollersets that can make her hair look curly and
she says (and I quote):

"I don't like curls. When your hair's curly people think you're Spanish or something but it doesn't look right on me."

^^ What the eff?!? My cousin is a beautiful, scrumptious, almost edible
milk chocolate color. We grew up together and I spent half my life
wanting to be darker like her :/

I think curly hair would look incredible on her. Why doesn't she?!?
Yesterday, she had her hair straightened but the humidity (we live in
S. Florida) curled her hair up into like a 3a/b curl and it looked so
cute! So what because she's darker she can't pull curls off?

Is she right? Is she freaking out over nothing? AM I freaking out?? Please, I would love your insight on this issue Smile

She'll get there! Just be patient with her. Send her some photos of the girls here.
I love sweet and curls galore - they have the prettiest skin- I have ever seen!

Just as NylaCoils said, have patience with her. Send her to us, and she'll realize that she's freaking out over nothing. I look at them like "DAMN I wish my skin was that smooth and even and flawless... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] "

Hey Krissy!

I'm reading your post and I really want to encourage your cousin that her natural hair would look amazing on her, no matter what hue she is! She can take it from me, and I have strong African features. Dark skin, high cheek bones, full lips and nose, but girl, you can't tell me I'm not fierce rocking the curls and coils God gave me! There is no such animal as being too dark, too light, too short, too tall, to skinny, too fat, the list goes on, to rock her natural tresses! Shoot her my way! I'd love to give her the encouragement she needs! I can send her several inspiring photos that will definitely give her a change of heart.
