Please Help! Just BC'd Need Moisture!
Hi, ladies! I'm new to this forum thing (other than for my online classes) but I have some concerns about my hair. I just did the chop a little over a week ago, more like 10 days ago. But my hair is SOOOO dry! I have washed the buildup of cone's with a sulfate conditioner (for the last time) conditioned with everything (Herbal Ess. Hello Hydration:i know it has cones, but people swear by it) Giovanni (for dry brittle hair, and the teat tree peppermint one), Kinky Curly knot today and KCCC. Now mind you, my hubby didnt see my hair until I got the KC. It definitely handled the job, but my hair was still dry looking at the end of the day. My hair looks thick, and appears to have 2 textures 4a? and 4B?. IDK, YOU be the judge. But the dryness is killing me right now, if I dont put the KCCC in its a hot dry mess. Greased my scalp with Shea & Coconut oil today before I applied KCCC. And it is a little softer, but I'm wondering if I have problems with porosity. The water takes a lil sec to penetrate, but eventually it does, and pops my curls, then when it dries.....HOT MESS! lol I've deep conditioned, using Shea Moisture's Deep Conditioning Hair Mask, Honey & Avocado and everything. But nothing is keeping the moisture. So if any one can help PLEASE DO! Or do I just need time???
Thanks
Thanks

seems like nothings working ... maybe the clarifying conditioner didn't do the job, try a shampoo.

Maybe your hair doesn't like oils. It is possible that your hair prefers a heavy creamy conditioner. You could also spritz your hair with a mix of water, conditioner or oils. It may just be a trial and error process and you need to give it some time. You should wet your hair daily. You should probably cowash your hair daily and sleep in a satin scarf.

You just BC'd so your hair is going to be dry for awhile. Mine stayed dry for about a month after my BC'd regardless of what I did. Like it would be soft and moisturized in the beginning of the day but just like you by the end of the day it was horrible. Try using a water based product (like a leave in), an oil, and maybe something creme based, (I use a shea butter mixture). Also check out Mahogany Curls video on keeping her TWA moisturized... it helped me alot

I say find a good leave-in conditioner, and a good oil to seal in the moisture (since it's summertime), then you should be good

I have had the same problem and baggying overnight has saved me, but b/c I do it nightly, I keep moisture in it. I put on a conditioner cap on top of my satin cap and in the morning I just need to fluff and go. I swear by Scurl, Qhem Biologics Cocoa Tree detangling/conditioner and seal with coconut or olive oil. My hair loves it and sometimes it may be a tad damp, but of course in an hour or so, its dry.
After I co-wash, I use a little conditioner (Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose), a moisturizer and seal with oil. I must do all 3 or I have the same dryness. Hang in there, it does get better!
Congratulations on your BC and welcome to the natural side!

Your hair is going to take awhile to retain moisture.....you won't see much change until after your 1st or 2nd month...try to keep a steady regimen of conditioning, deep conditioning, and mositurizing your hair with a creamy moisturizer, EVOO, or castor oil and just plain old water...within time your hair wont be as dry....you are only in the very very early stages of growing your natural hair out..keep the faith!

Since you've just done your bc your hair is going to be prone to dryness. It took my hair about a month or two months after my bc before I got rid of the dryness. Everyone has given some really great suggestions. Since you have the Shea Moisture deep conditioning mask I would definitely use this at least once a week.
Re: Please Help! Just BC'd Need Moisture!
I agree with the baggy method and deep conditioning weekly. When I first BC'd I had to moisturize DAY AND NIGHT. Otherwise it would be brillo pad dry before the day was over.
Another question --- do you cover it or protect it with a satin cap or pillowcase? That helps a lot too.
