Re: Ask Nik G of BeadsBraidsBeyond
@3 c, Yes and the flexi-rod sets will last a while. At LEAST 1 week!! Thanks again
@Pinkrage, Thank you sooo much!! I have a youtube https://www.youtube.com/user/beadsbraidsbeyond There's not too much on there right now but please feel free to request a style or tutorial!! I need to figure out how to edit videos so I can REALLY start making tutorials...lol
@back2basics, Hey!! When I style her hair I just use a fine tooth comb on already detangled hair, like if I'm doing a few ponytails I'll use the fine tooth comb to smooth it back/smooth her edges. If that's what you mean?? When I detangle her hair and let her wear it down I detangle with my fingers, then wide tooth comb, then denman d3 brush. That video Pinkrage posted should be able to help, but I posted these instructions in a comment on the post:
Here's a tutorial on how to do a three strand twist, I will be making my own soon but I hope this helps:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n34-WitkCoo
Now I'll try to explain the way I do it
1.Take your section of hair and split it into 3
2. Take your right piece of hair and cross it all the way over your middle and left piece. (It now becomes your new left piece)
3. Take your new right piece of hair and cross it all the way over your middle and left piece. (this now becomes your new left piece)
4. Take your NEW right piece of hair and cross it all the way over your middle and left piece.
As you can see, I'm just repeating myself, lol. But that's how I do my three strand twists. Hope that helps!
It sounds really easy, because it is really easy. Just keep crossing the right side all the way over the left side, keep repeating...
Hope that helps.
Anything else please feel free to ask!!!

Here is my curly girl! I have been using Mane and Tail shampoo and
conditioner because lots of people told me that it would help her hair
grow like it did their kids. But I noticed that their kids had 4b/4c
type hair (more bushy, not curly). I guess my daughter has 3c/4a hair
(what do you think, from the pic). I am looking for products that
moisturize her hair and define her curl. I would like for her to be
able to wear her hair out (this puff is the extent of her wearing it
out and I've only done that twice). What kind of shea butter and unrefined coconut oil do you use
and where do I get it? What do you use on the scalp? I saw the curly q
review on your blog and loved the curl definition, would you consider
adding that to your weekly routine or only on styles that have "A's"
hair down?

Hey Nick, I finally got around to braiding my daughter's hair. It was my fist time using extensions. Oh, and she asked me not to use the extensions next time because she wants me to put beads on the ends....My baby's growing up!!!!!!!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] I guess you can tell by the 2nd photo she is a goof ball.

What a diva, so cute!! love her puff!
I'm no curl typing expert, but she looks 4a/bish, if you have any other pics maybe I can help more. Her puff reminds me of my daughters puff though.
I buy the unrefined shea butter from the BSS and virgin coconut oil, no particular place or brand but I recently bought the big jar of the Vitamin Shoppe brand. Also for moisture I love giovanni direct leave-in.
I don't apply anything directly to her scalp.
For curl definition I would definitely recommend curly q's, specfically the gel-les'c. She has gotten some really great curl definition from herbal essence hello hydration conditioner, mixed chicks leave in, and deva curl. I would say she had the least frizz from using the curly q gel-les'c though.

These are for Pinkrage...
Hair washed, detangled and let air dry with no product...
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Dry hair after using Curly Q's moisturizer, milkshake, and gel-les'c, She was swinging her hair back and forth, you can really see how defined her curls were, frizz free, shiny and moisturized...

Re: Ask Nik G of BeadsBraidsBeyond
Thanks Nikg! Maybe I am using the wrong combination of products. I don't have the milkshake or souffle but have seen others with similiar textures use them with great results. I only have the curls quench moisturizer and curl gelesc.
I noticed you let her hair air dry first. That is different because I usually apply it on soaking wet hair similiar to KCCC.

Re: Ask Nik G of BeadsBraidsBeyond
No that top picture was taken on a different day, just so you have an idea of what her hair looks like with no product.
I applied the products in sections, finger detangled, then used a wide tooth comb, then the denman d3 brush on wet hair. I don't think the milkshake would do anything to define A's curls alone...maybe the custard/souffle. I'll have to try that.
This was from another time (last year) when I used Curl Gel-les'c alone, and combed through with a wide tooth comb...

I'm definitely a fan of the Gel-les'c as you can see, lol. The above picture was the first time I used it on her hair.

Hey NikG20,
I finally tried a different style in my sons hair after reading the last article on you that Curlynikki posted. I went to that page you recommended and it helped a lot!

Hey Hollis!
You did a great job!!! I have been wanting to try those kind of cornrows for a while but haven't found the courage, lol. How long did it take? They look really nice...

Re: Ask Nik G of BeadsBraidsBeyond
Thanks NikG! It took me about five hours because he did not want to sit still. I felt so bad for him but I just wanted to finish. I'm usually very careful with his hair but he said I was making his head hurt the whole time, but when I wasn't even touching him he was saying ouch so I think it only hurt him when he pulled away in the middle of a braid lol. I want to try that exact same style again but with zig zags (which I still do not know how to do [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] ). I had my hair done like that when I was in college with the zig zags.

Nik, I confess. I am style challenged when it comes to doing my daughter's hair. So, if you don't mind, I STOLE some of your ideas and my daughter loves them so please don't be mad [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] lol. Here is the latest NikG stolen due.

And my baby now @7.5months has enough hair for a pebbles ponytail (Pebbles from the Flintstones).

Re: Ask Nik G of BeadsBraidsBeyond
Super cute @ Jackie!! I love the cross over braid!! Her hair is really long she doesn't need the extensions anyway.
Re: Ask Nik G of BeadsBraidsBeyond
Hello,
nikG, I was wondering where you found that Barbie with a TWA for you little girl? I'm looking for a Barbie for myself that has "natural" hair style. Thanks!

Re: Ask Nik G of BeadsBraidsBeyond
I think I may need to deep condition Kurly T's hair. I've been using the HEHH as a leave in so what should I use for the deep condition? My plan was to leave the conditioner in and put a plastic cap on to keep it warm (she is not going to sit under the dryer, that is a disaster waiting to happen, lol), then rinse it out and put the HEHH and leave it in as normal. Do you think this will work?

Use the HEHH as a DC? Yes! I have done that several times. I like mixing it with coconut oil. How did it turn out? I apologize for the late response. Usually I am notified by email when there is a comment.

See...I'm late again! Whats up with my notifications? lol
She is doing great Thanks for asking. I was MIA for a while b/c my brother was in the hospital so I'm really trying to get back into the swing of things. I have lots of new ideas, so lots of new content will be coming soon enough. And of course all of the old styles I had to delete due to the picture incident.
I know I said it in the random thoughts thread but I love your new avatar!
Re: Ask Nik G of BeadsBraidsBeyond
