I'm becoming a headband fiend too. I wear this one a lot, got it from Rite Aid. They have a lot of cute ones.

I don't think a leather headband will cause breakage, but it would make that part of your scalp sweaty which could lead to irritation if you are wearing it all day.

I got most of my headbands at J Crew (since they are big enough not to pinch my temples). The orangy one has a big bow on it .. really almost of mine have various bows on them. I like bows!

I also have a few from Nordstrom that I picked up but I just got a hair cut so can't wear the clips till my hair grows out again.
