Favorite Butters?
Just interested in knowing what type of butters you ladies are using. My hair doesn't particularly care for Shea Butter, so I'm looking for other options. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

I've only used shea on its own, though I've used commercial products that contain other butters. I've heard good things about the two that rebelrocks mentions, as well as avocado butter.

I don't think my hair likes shea butter either. (You're not supposed to feel a product when you touch your hair, are you?) I REALLY want to try mango butter. I was in the BSS yesterday and saw the Elasta QP Mango Butter, but didn't get it. I'd kinda like to try just straight mango butter. But then again, I may go back today at get the Elasta QP...

The QP mango butter is ok. I'm not a fan of the ingredients...I've used it once and it smells really yummy but other than that..i wasn't WOWed.

@rebelrocks: Have you tried pure mango butter? I wonder if it's lighter than shea.

I was looking at the mango butter on the butters-n-bars website, but it's out of stock until December. I'm interested in hearing more about mango butter and also avocado butter. Where are you guys buying these?

I've heard good things about Texas Natural Supply, though I haven't ordered from them yet. If you search the texture playground blog, you'll get a lot of feedback about the site.

Re: Favorite Butters?
I also would like to try other butters. I love the smell of mango so that would probably be the first one I tried. My shea butter man left me so now I have no local place to get reasonable shea butter. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Re: Favorite Butters?
I mixed Nubian Heritage mango butter w/ shea and vit e with coconut oil and my ends are soft and fluffy. Not to mention how good my hair smells. Both were ordered from iHerb.com, using the discount code.
Looking to order more, the mango was only a 4oz.

@ dajewel: I have tried it to seal dry hair, I have tried it to do twists and braids on wet and dry hair and it always seems to just lay on top of my hair no matter how much or how little I put in. I'm just not sure it likes my hair!

Re: Favorite Butters?
For those of you that uses shea butter...how are you applying it to your hair? Did you mix the shea with any thing else. I love the shea on my skin but I use it only at night because i'm not crazy about the scent. I wanna try it in my hair but I couldn't take the scent all day.

I mix mine w/ EVOO, coconut oil, castor oil, and sometime aloe vera gel (if I want it extra creamy). I then to blend it well with my oils and the apply on damp hair. keeps my hair moisturized for days...I even use it on my skin.

Re: Favorite Butters?
I have mango butter. It is firmer than Shea butter and takes longer to emulsify than Shea butter. I rarely use it since I have so many other products. I will use it this week and do my best to let everyone know what I think.
I prefer mixing Shea butter with an oil or aloe Vera gel. I have used Shea alone but find it didn't do anything special. It may be because I tried in summer.
I have Koils by Nature's butter. It has a combination of butters and oils. It moisturizers great. A little goes a long way. It has Shea butter, kokum butter, mango butter, avocado butter, aloe butter, oils, glycerin and vitamin E.

Re: Favorite Butters?
Darcy's botanicals has lots of moisturizers in butter form. I just got the madagascar vanilla styling cream( even tho its more of a butter than a cream) Its thick and a little goes a long way... here's the link

Re: Favorite Butters?
Have you tried CD healthy hair butter? Also, my hair doesn't do well with raw shea butter but I have this other shea butter mixed with some apricot something or another from a hair show and it smells great and is a tad creamer which makes all the difference to my hair... I always think I'm doing something wrong when I put raw shea butter on my hair because I can feel it! or it just doesn't feel right...

Re: Favorite Butters?
I tried the CD healthy hair butter, but I was not a fan of the smell. I used it after my BC and I didn't feel like it did anything for my hair. I'm going to look into the Darcy's Botanical's butters and maybe KBB hair cream or butter. Anyone tried that?
