"BIG CHOP" countdown!!!! Empty "BIG CHOP" countdown!!!!

Post by loveself247 11th November 2009, 7:00 pm

Hey Newbies, if like me you are a new to transitioning and your giving yourself a year before doing your BC,,let's start counting down together! I have considered the following questions:

1. When did you start transitioning? (September 1, 2009)
2. How much new growth do you have now? (gotta check,,lol)
3. What is your goal new growth length before doing your BC? (pass my ears)
4. What will be your BC date?
(September 2010)

LETS GO!!

Loveself247 this is a great idea! Us newbies have to stick together! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

1. Started transitioning May 09 but then I relaxed my edges in Aug so my official start date is- Aug 14,2009

2. I did a lil bc in October so maybe 3 inches of new growth (I'm guessing big time so I might be editing this answer after I do my hair 2nite)

3. I don't really have a particular length goal more of a thickness goal I just want to have healthy thick hair!

4. I decided that I would bring in my 25th b-day w/ a BC so Aug 30, 2010!!!

LET THE COUNTDOWN BEGIN!!!! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Post by MrsLambsWool 11th November 2009, 8:17 pm

I agree with Natural_Nance what a great idea!!!! Lets see:

1. My last relaxer was October 9th, so I am 1 month in.
2. It doesn't appear that I have much new growth but it's definitely
getting thick.
3. I don't really hae a goal as far as length is concerned.
4. Initially, I thought I would transition for a year wich would make
my BC date October 2010, but I've already pushed it up to May.
I can't wait, I'm sooo excited!

I had my last perm months ago(can't really remember when) but I say this everyday on the CN site "I AM SOOOOO READY FOR MY BC" LOL!! I was looking in the mirror last night and seen that the back of my hair is starting to have new growth. and I was sooo happy,I'm like "hurry up already" lol. I'm gonna to BC as soon as the rest of my new growth comes in. I don't wanna cut it myself cause I don't wanna mess my hair up,so I'll get someone to do it for me. I just want to have thicker and healthier hair. cause my hair has always been thin and I don't like it. That's why I have so many wigs. and just to be real for a moment,I honestly think that making that big step in my life will help me to love myself more. and stop beating my self up everyday for not being a size 3 anymore. something about embracing who you really are is very liberating to me!

@ Tiffy2, I'm right there with you. It's amazing how much of a part hair plays in self-esteem. When my hair was "done" (relaxed and fried), I thought I was the best thing since sliced bread! But as soon as the new growth started coming or I had a "bad" hair day, my confidence would drop to almost nothing. Now that I've learned how to love me the person, and no longer associate beauty with hair, I'm back in my 'whole-grain bread" state of mind regardless of what my hair looks like, lol! Like with most things this is a process with outcomes that only need to be measured by you. I'm looking at your picture and you are beautiful!

Like loveself 247 said welcome to the countdown! Happy transitioning!

Post by MissSimone 12th November 2009, 3:13 am

hey i guess i'm closer to my BC than everyone else. yikes!!

1. When did you start transitioning? (My last perm was December 28, 2008. I'm hoping to the BC before my 2 year anniversary with the mister in early January)

2. How much new growth do you have now? (I have no idea I have a lot of coily springy things growing out my head. I would say about 5 inches. I'm not good with measurements but I'll try to measure once I take my twists out in Dec. )

3. What is your goal new growth length before doing your BC? (Because my hair is so long now ideally I would like it to be past at least at my ears. *fingers crossed*)

4. What will be your BC date?
(January 2010)

dGreat idea loveself247!

1. When did you start transitioning? My last relaxer was on October 2, 2009 (I am a serious newbie!!)

2. How much new growth do you have now? I dont know...not much since I am only 5wks into my transition.

3. What will be your BC date? Either Dec 31, 2010 or February 14, 2011 (my bday!!)

4. What is your goal length before BC'ing? I would like for my new growth to be at least to my chin (I need some hair to frame my round face. I love my face but I also know what works for me and what I am comfortable with).

I love this site and I love that all of the new transitioners are coming together for support. Let's get ladies!!!

Post by Lanamarie 12th November 2009, 3:35 pm

1. I started transitioning in May 2009 so I'm 6 months post relaxer. It definitely has gotten harder in the last month or so. It was a breeze in the beginning.

2. I dont know exactly how much new growth I have because my hair is already long and thick and it weighs down the new growth so that my hair doesn't curl as much. When I wash my hair I can see my curls better and I think i have probably up to my ears.

3. I don't really have any length goals before I big chop. I am waiting until after my HS reunion because I don't want to risk going there and not being able to control the new fro'. I'm still trying to get my current hair regime down to a science, furthermore a new short style.

4. My BC date is whenever I have reached my limits in dealing with the two textures. Might be tomorrow might be in January but I'm definitely chopping before April 2010.

@lovelynika...we are so on the same page. I started transitioning a month after you and my new growth is coming in so fast. Like you, I can't wait and I love to TRY running my fingers through my hair to play with my deeps wavy curly coming in. It looks like we will almost be at the start and finish line together.

1. When did you start transitioning?
-Early August 09

2. How much new growth do you have now?
-Not sure. Its quite noticable tho so I'm happy. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

3. What is your goal new growth length before doing your BC?
-I dont really have a goal new growth length. My goal is just to get my hair and scalp as healthy as possible.

4. What will be your BC date?
-I am going to try and hold off until next year. I want to try and go a year, but I've been seriously thinking about doing it in next month. I'm quite impatient, and I really like how my hair looks short.

@Pi*Jay..I think we all are. I feel like I abused and betrayed my hair for so many years that it's only fare that I rid her of the chemically processed part that is so unhealthy. But as anxious as I am, I'm determined to go a year.

Thanks MrsLambsWool AND Loveself247! I told my bestfriend about CN last night, and she's so ready to join. I also told her about me going natural and she was like "fa real"?! now she wants to go natural too lol. We talked about it a while back but got scared cause we didn't think we would have anything to do with our hair. But since she see that I'm serious about going natural she's all in.I told her how wonderful this site is and how supportive all the women are on here. She said she doesn't want to do the BC,she's gonna get microbraids while transitioning.

1. When did you start transitioning? My last perm was July 18, 2009 and I started transitioning around the end of August to the beginning of September.

2. How much new growth do you have now? I never knew this, but my hair grows slower in some places, and faster in others. I have 2.5-2.75 inches. The front (like right at my edges) grows the slowest, and the hair at the top of my head grows the fastest (I have about 3-3.5 inches)

3. What is your goal new growth length before doing your BC? shoulder length

4. What will be your BC date? I think I will have shoulder length hair by a year and a few months, So I plan to BC on or around my birthday next year: November 2, 2010. Although I'm not sure if I can make it that far. I love my texture [so far] lol and I want to see it without being weighed down by the permed ends.
