is co-washing everyday bad?

Hello Natural Chicas and i guess Chicos if there are any. I have started working out everyday and i SWEAT like CRAZY. So when i get home i want to shower and wash my hair. And of course I dont shampoo everyday but i do co-wash. Is that doing too much or is it okay. I think i would rather co wash than let the sweat absorb into my hair. What do you think???? Do any of you work out and have this same problem?

I don't think it's bad at all because you definitely want to get that sweat out of your hair because it will dry your hair out badly! I work out too and I've tried skipping the cowashes, but realized that it will do more harm than good.

I had this same question when I BC'd. I was co-washing everyday. I usually do every other day now (got lazy) but it has not done anything bad to my hair. My hair is the healthiest it has ever been and is growing really fast so I definitely don't think co-washing frequently is a bad thing. I say go for it!

I co-wash every day... and I'm a new 100% natural... but even when I was transitioning... I co-washed almost daily or close to it... for the same reason, I sweat like crazy when I work out!

hey ladies. i actually washed and conditioned my hair every day when I first bc'd and my hair loved it. In fact, I felt good doing it especially since I worked out almost every day. I dont think co-washing often hurts at all. I do think your hair will tell you if she starts to hate it.

I used to cowash everyday with a non-silicone conditioner. My hair thrived!

I also cowash after every work out and my hair really loves it!

Me too and I agree with your comments...

Additionally, sometimes I cowash when I get home from the gym, put on my DT and a shower cap and leave it in overnight. And then, cowash again in the morning...

Spending my evenings at the gym rarely leaves me with time for deep conditioning so that's my way of ensuring they get done )

I co-washed for the first time today to test it out. I've never heard of this concept until 2 weeks ago. It's given me a reason to buy more conditioner!

I'm glad I read this because I co-wash my hair at least 5 times a week!

I'm a new natural and I've enjoyed doing daily cowashes. I'm just so happy to no longer have to hide from water!!!

I cowash every day.... My hair loves me for it! She thanks me when I'm done. I think as long as you remember to add moisture when you're done you should be all good!!

I cowash 5-6 days per week. I work out six days a week and sweat like a dude. My hair is growing a lot however. Recently I switched to a non-sulfate shampoo (Thank you Nikki) and a really good conditioner (Poo and Conditioner/Trader Joes Tea Tree Oil) and my hair actually feels big and heavy on my head while I'm in the shower. I retain a lot of moisture. I apply a leave in conditioner (Paul Mitchell/The Conditioner) and 100% pure aloe vera gel, then seal with shea oil. I've been doing this for about two weeks now, and my hair is h-a-p-p-y.

I BC'd on March 31st, and believe I'm on my way from a TWA to a short afro. I just started to lift my hair with a pic this week and I'm lovin' it.

So yes, I believe frequent co-washing is beneficial to get the salty sweat out of your hair.

I've been doing it and I'm seeing nothing but great results and growth.

You are so beautiful!!! I just had to say that!

I used to co wash daily and my hair was quite happy. However, I stopped as it was too time consuming and I found buying a lot of conditioner to keep up with the daily washes too expensive.

Now I make up a spritz that I use night and day and which contains a little conditioner, water, aloe vera juice and glycerin. I then only co-wash once a week.

My hair has thrived more since doing this and feels very moisturised. I think it may be doing well also because it's being manipulated less and I suspect that because I just braid it up the rest of the time I notice the growth only when it's unbraided out. You know what they say about a watched pot never boiling!

co washing is when you use conditioner to wash your hair instead of shampoo. MahogonyCurls on YT has a wonderful co washing video!! I co wash daily and use shampoo once a week. I know it sounds odd like how can your hair be clean if you're not shampooing it but it works!!

Pre-pooing- A treatment applied prior to shampooing. It usually consists of oils and/or conditioners applied the night before the shampoo or immediately prior, with a heat source to help penetrate. This is usually performed to help the hair maintain necessary moisture during the drying shampoo process.

I bc'ed for the second time two weeks ago and last week I didn't wash my hair for 5 days...I did wet it once however and I must say....I def will be co-washing my hair everyday.

Just need a really good conditioner...any ideas...I am currently using the vo5 clarifying conditioner and moisture milks for co-washing and i use aphoghee and le kair cholestoral for deep conditioner

I actually put my conditioner on when I go 2 the gym. I slather it on; put on a shower cap & scarf, & workout. My body temp rising while I workout makes it so I don't have 2 use heat 4 my condiitioners. When I get home I rinse it out while I'm taking my shower (occassionally I have to use a little ACV in my rinse).

By His Design, I love the 'Yes to' line (Carrots, Cucumbers, and Tomatoes). I use them 4 cowashes, leave ins, deep conditioners, etc.
