What's my hair texture? Empty What's my hair texture?

Hi ladies,

I'm a born-again natural and reading everything my eyes land on. What's all this about textures being 3C/4A/4B/4C etc? What tools could I use to determine my hair texture? Is there some kind of chart? Please steer me in the right direction.

Hey talljournalist! There is so much mixed information about hair textures and types. Many naturals, including myself, focus very little on hair types. Most of us will just advise that you not concern yourself with hair type. Focusing on the health of your hair is most important. Besides, many of the hair type charts are not accurate. I have no idea how hair texture is classified or how they come up with such a system.

My best advice to you is you may want to stalk albums of some curlies on this site or other sites and compare your texture to theirs if you are trying to determine what products to use. Many of us have fotki albums with our entire hair journeys. That's what help me.

If you really need to know, Nappturality.com has a thread on the LOIS system or you can Google LOIS. That's probably the closest hair type chart out there. Congrats on your return to natural! All the best on journey.
