Products for twist-outs
What products do you use to get great hold on a twist out and make it last 3 or 4 days?

Re: Products for twist-outs
Hi Coilykinks,
I've never had a twist-out to last for 3-4 days, but I think it's because I get bored with my hair easily. I normally use Ms. Jessie's Curly Meringue for my twist-outs, but over the weekend I tried Jamaican Mango & Lime Twist and Loc gel and I had wonderful results! My hair actually looked better with the cheaper stuff. I only paid $3.99 at a beauty supply store. My twist out actually looked good for at least 2 days, but I got bored and decided to do it again. The first time I did it on dry hair, this time I've done it on co-washed hair.
Good luck!

Re: Products for twist-outs
I have a few different products that work for a long-lasting twist-out or braid-out. Tonight I used Curls Souffle; sometimes I'll leave in my conditioner (Herbal Essence or Garnier) and mix that with shea butter and coconut oil; and sometimes (just b/c I bought it and will be using it to the last drop) I use Miss Jessie's Curly Meringue or Stretch Silkening Creme. The best and longest hold comes from Miss Jessie's, although I'm looking for a more natural product to replace it.

I use the shea-yogurt moisturizer from Blackonyx.com and my braid outs and twist last for about 4 days with help from a satin bonnet

I use Afroveda's Totally Twisted Ginger Almond Butter or any of those butters. They give good hold and my twistout lasts a good week. My favorite though is the Bee Mine Bee Hold Curly Butter. It leaves my hair better moisturized, but both lines do wonderful.

I did my first twistout early yesterday morning on freshly cowashed hair. I moisturized with Curls' Curl Souffle and shingled/sealed with castor oil. My hair is super moist and soft.

CCC,
Does the Eco custard leave your hair feeling hard because of the gel or do the added oils suppress that crunchy feel? Where can I purchase avocado oil?

The oil pretty much eliminates the crunch factor. I got my avocado oil at Whole Foods.

I have never tried Afroveda products. I guess like other stuff you have to order online? do you also use a leave-in and then the butter? Is the leave-in by Afroveda also?

Re: Products for twist-outs
For my twistouts, I use my shealoe mixture. The only commericial product I've tried is Cantu Shea Butter, but have since switched to my homemade shealoe. My twistouts always look so full and fluffy, not to mention shiny. I've also learned that keeping a little conditioner in the hair after a wash also makes for better hold and a softer twistout. I can keep a twistout up to 4, maybe 5 days.

Yes you have to order the Afroveda online. I do use a leave-in. At first I just used a leave-in that I bought from a BSS. Nothing special, it was a Creme of Nature leave-in. But I've started using the Afro Detangler leave-in and I love it. It really leaves my hair moisturized. I wash or co-wash, then put the Afro Detangler in and put about 8 - 10 twists all over and let that sit. Then I'll do the twists on either dry or slightly damp hair.
