Baking Soda Treatment Empty Baking Soda Treatment

Post by NappilyEverAfter 6th January 2010, 11:46 pm

Hey Curly's, I was looking at a video on youtube about the baking soda treatment with a deep condition. The girl in her video put in two tablespoons of BS with her deep conditioner and regular conditioner along with honey and olive oil. She said that it made her hair really soft, and if left in for a while, can possibly loosen the texture of hair. Have you or anyone you know of tried this treatment? How did it work out?

I want to try this as well but for clarifying, not to loosen my curl though. The recipe I saw said that baking soda treatments open the pores and that they need to be followed with ACV rinses to close the pores back up. Maybe other curlies will chime in and help us out because Im curious too!

I tried it and didn't like it. It didn't change the texture of my hair but I am glad it didn't because I was using it for clarifying also.

@tiashauntee...Did it dry your hair out?

Now that Im thinking about it a little deeper, it seems like it would be a little harsh or drying. I keep picturing toothpaste in my hair. LoL

I used to use baking soda to wash my hair while I was transitioning. It made my hair really soft so you can get the softness by using it alone.

LOL @ jlowman1. I thought the same thing when she did the video, but it actually turned out looking a little foamy.
@Erica5417 I heard the same thing for transitioners. I have one more month before my BC so I think I might give it a try before the relaxed ends disappear.

@erica5417...what did you mix it with and did you have to do an acv rinse afterwards?

I simply used baking soda and water and I did do the acv rinse although I stopped doing the acv because it seemed to take away some of the softness.

It made my scalp feel tight and dry. The mix is for buildup and I only experience a lot of buildup after using a ton of product while styling. At that time I didn't have any build up-that is probably why it didn't work.
