Itchy Scalp Empty Itchy Scalp

Post by cocoachanel 6th January 2010, 1:56 am

I've been seeing a lot of topic about scalp issues. But I decided to start my own topic because my issue is not as severe as those discussed in the other topics. My scalp simply gets annoyingly itchy when I'm getting close to my wash day. I wash my hair once a week - shampoo, condition, deep condition. And for the first three to four days it's fine but for the last few days my scalp gets very itchy. Usually I will co-wash in the middle of the week to combat this, but now that I am trying to use more protective styling in order to keep my hands out of my head and retain length I am not able to do this. I don't have dandruff or anything, my scalp just itches like no body's business. I can't even believe I used to not wash my hair for weeks on end when I wore braids and didn't used to care for my hair. I wonder if it's the style I have my hair in right now. I have my hair in half corn rows, half twists and I remember my scalp was this itchy about a month or so ago when I wore twists. I suspect it has something to do with styles where my scalp is exposed. Because my scalp isn't half as itchy when I'm wearing simple updos. But I would like to wear corn rows more often as a protective style but if I can't find a way to combat this itching, I may not be able to.

Try peppermint oil in a spray bottle with water. I used to do this all of the time while I was transitioning. I bought the small 2 oz spray bottles from Walmart and would fill with water and add about 2 drops of pure peppermint oil. This resolved the itchies as well as promotes hair growth and health scalp.

Thanks! I've always wanted to try peppermint oil, just cast peppermint is one of my favorite fragrances, lol. But I will definitely try it out. The itching has diminished now that I've taken the style down though. It's still there because it's so close to wash day I presume but definitely not as bad as yesterday. So I'd guess it was the pulling of the scalp or something to that effect. My scalp is such a wuss now that I no longer wear braids, lol.

I have the same problem with my scalp after 3 days. I just wash it but it does get annoying if you're trying to keep a style. I got my hair braided one time and was mad because I barely lasted a week because my head was itching so much after a few days!

When my scalp gets itchy, I mix a bit of tea tree oil in my coconut oil.
