What comes First? Clarify or deep condition? Empty What comes First? Clarify or deep condition?

Post by Curly Film Chick 16th December 2009, 2:08 pm

So I've been really trying to think about how to build my regimen and one thing I'm still confused about is whether I should clarify and THEN deep condition or deep condition and THEN clarify? Should your hair be wet when you deep condition?

I've heard most say it doesn't matter. But I want to know what others do, and perhaps an explaination?

thanks in advance!

I would definitely deep condition after clarifying. Clarifying shampoos remove all of the dirt and debris from your hair and scalp; it also strips your hair of moisture. If you clarify after deep conditioning you won't give your hair back the moisture it needs to be healthy.

I clarify once a month with bentonite clay and deep condition weekly with Aubrey Organics.

I've actually found that deep conditioner applied to dry hair works great. Whenever I shampoo (very rarely now since changing products) I deep condition first, then clarify and then condition again. That way, my hair is protected from the clarifying shampoo.

This is what I've been doing. I just did it out of habit tho, not with a reason.

What comes First? Clarify or deep condition? Empty Which Comes 1st DC or Clarify - For Me DC

Post by ChrsLvsBks 16th December 2009, 5:37 pm

I clarify first with a baking soda and conditioner mix. Like others said, it rids your hair of build up. I then DC with heat for an hour.

I have DC'd with AO GPB on dry hair and wet hair. I cannot recall a difference. I prefer to DC on wet hair. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Like items attract to like items so I figure my conditioners are water based so my hair should be wet.

I clarify with baking soda. Some times I will mix the baking soda and vo5 together then apply to wet hair.

I would think that clarifying comes first. At least that's what I do. You can deep condition on dry & wet hair. Some people prefer dry because, when your hair is wet, there are only so many benefits your hair can take from the DC since your hair has already taken in the water you wet it with.
