To Condition or Not to Condition
I was reading on Essence (like they know anything about natural hair care) and a professional stated:
"I don’t recommend conditioning natural hair; instead of conditioner, add oils," suggests Smith. "Conditioner is not as beneficial to natural hair because conditioner contains a lot of waxy type substances that can cover and clog the hair cuticle, preventing it from receiving moisture. Oil goes straight into the cuticle and nourishes the strands.”
If your natural hair needs additional conditioning, try using Hair Treatment Conditioner by Earth Science, $5.20, evitamins.com. Pour a small amount of product into the palm of your hand, then apply to hair. Leave in for two minutes, then rinse."
What do you all think?

Re: To Condition or Not to Condition
I think he probably works with more relaxed heads than natural ones but either way both need to be conditioned in my opinion. Some conditioners do contain "a lot of waxy type substances that can cover and clog the hair cuticle, preventing it from receiving moisture" but most of us already know that which is why we try to stay away from the ones that contain mineral oil, petroleum, cones, and parabens. Conditioner is my friend and I'm not letting her go!

^^I agree. I am not letting go of conditioner either! We all would be bald without it.

@AL, I agree. We have done our research but it sounds like he hasn't.

i remember reading that, and i was like man, u crazy!! then again, i think he is referring to most products marketed to African Americans. He prolly has no idea about mistress lines. true, some oils penetrate and/or moisture the cuticle, but not all.

Re: To Condition or Not to Condition
yeah... he's ridiculous... What essence needs to do is sit the Curly Nikki Natural Women down for a hair care session.... The entire world would change....

I think Curly Nikki should have a Natural Hair column in Essence. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Re: To Condition or Not to Condition
^^^^ that is such a good idea!
Because they keep hiring these stylists who only real experience is relaxed hair...what does he really know about natural hair? especially since every other place you go to says to condition, condition...
