Getting Nervous about going natural
Hello ladies, this is my second time transitioning and I am getting nervous about being natural. I am currently six months post relaxer and I experimenting with different styles and trying to make sure my hair stays healthy. I have only flat ironed it three times and I usually do it when I need to trim my ends. I think I am getting nervous because I am uneasy about the styles. The first time I was natural I only transitioned four months, then I BC'ed. I wasn't too happy with the results. I let my hair grow out for about ten months and then I relaxed it again....now I am back, trying this again. I think I am impatient. I want the long natural hair now but I know it is a process. I hope to transition for another year and a half. If there are any transitioners or naturals with experience in this area (long term transition) please share tips and advice for me....oh and styles. Check out my albums and blog to see the type of hair I have and let me know what I can do with it. Thanks

Hey fellow transitioner. It has been a little over two years for me with my transition. I think the thing that has helped me the most are low manipulative styles where I do not have to comb my hair very often. I typically style my hair once a week. I have some styles in my fotki. Feel free to check it out Good luck to you on your transition.

Re: Getting Nervous about going natural
hey! I had my last relaxer in March I believe and I dyed it in May. I bought scissors two weeks ago and started subtly by clipping a bit of my bangs. I plan on chopping all my relaxed hair off because I am impatient as well.
I don't wear weaves or extensions so I am hoping to use some of the homemade recipes that are posted on some of the other threads here. I can't wait! good luck to you!

I'm 16 month+ post and plan to BC at 24 months or later. Lately I've been wearing my hair in a dry donut bun and keep hair smooth using the scarf method. This way I really leave my hair alone until it's cowash or shampoo time. Works for me! HTH

So I did my chop. I probably have about 2 inches in some area... I'm still getting used to it but I'm excited.
Does anyone have tips for keeping hair moisturized, def looking to hear from people.

Congrats on your BC. These are my suggestions:
Step 1: Balance moisture and protein in your products (http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/278612/the_fine_art_of_protein_and_moisture.html?singlepage=true&cat=69)
Step 2 : do a ACV clarifying rinse (2 TBS ACV in 1 cup H20) to remove any product build up.
Step 3: shampoo with a non SLS shampoo ( there are many inexpensive ones such as TJ nourish spa, etc )
Step 4. Deep condition with a non SLS conditioner ( there are many inexpensive ones such as TJ nourish spa, Giovanni SAS etc )
Step 5: apply a good leave in conditioner, then seal with EVCO, or EVOO or shea butter
Step 6, apply styler
Step 7: repeat weekly
