I think hair loss can come from braids in general (extensions). I lost a lot of hair after my yarn braids (i did them myself and had them in for about 5 weeks) and I think its because while our hair is in braids, it can't shed like it normally would so it all comes out when you take the braids out and wash it.

I've never had my hair braided by Africans though but I just wanted to share that. I would wear some beanies/hats or some cute headbands and just try to give my hair a break for a few days.

Yeah, I am currently doing daily deep conditioning now. I just wanted to get some coils for Christmas though but I don't know. Thanks for sharing!

@psbest sorry to hear about your horrible experience w/micros, but i just got micros recently and the lady who was an African did not have to straighten my hair. She just braided my hair as it was and it turned out marvelous. She should have been able to braid your hair w/o straightening, one would think Neutral

Good luck on your search for new styles!

@psbest, I am sorry as well to hear about your experience with your braids, but that is one of the reasons why i do my own hair. Actually this past weekend i wanted to do a protective stye and i was wondering what to do..so i went to the beauty supply store and bought 2pks of braiding hair for $4.00 and braided my hair ( It took me three hours) but @ least they are not too tight and the feel so good and it cost me less than $4.00 ( I did them in box braids the size of my pinky finger).

I plan on doing them every 2-3 weeks until summer and i sure they would cost me much less than the Africans. My hair does not come out and my hairline is well taken care of.

I am currently installing my own sengelase twist I plan on keeping in the cold winter months..I would always have problems when I went to the shop to get my hair done, so I figured why not learn myself. I did them last year and I got such great compliments Im doing it again this year with some added color since I got a little better at doing them and the hair was only 1.99 a pack...

Ill post pics when Im done. Hopefully by Wednesday( I do the outsides to I can rock a ponytail until I am completely done)...

Hey so I'm nigerian (ie African) and I've only had my hair/extensions done by Africans lol.
And I've had bad and good experiences, but I think most people braid it tight because it stays longer/looks neater and sharper.
But the lady that did your hair that way was untrained, and not really because she's African
Just my two cents.

Thanks @curl_Gurl
@LadygogoHot Yeah, keep up the work. I need to get some of that motivation. @laleepop14 I can't wait to see the pics. Yeah, I need to start trying to do extensions and become better. I currently have in twists without extensions. I am just waiting on my hair to get a little bit longer so I can rock some styles.
@naijagrl thanks for the input. Yeah, you are right. It's not because she was African but probably just don't know what she was doing. I wasn't sure but my friend was telling me that maybe it was because my hair was so frizzy and needed to lay the hair down to make it look neater.
