Whoaaa - No more extensions for me for a while. Atleast not by the Africans
So yeah, I took out the last bit of my micros today and washed my hair. As I was washing, a whole lot of my hair came out. I had in micros done by Africans and as I can remember they used a straighten comb like they were combing their own child's hair. I am sure that's why majority of my hair came out. It wasn't the braids so much because the lady was an older lady and I guess as they age they start to loosen up with the braids because I didn't even get that burning feeling right after she had finished with my hair. The fact that she combed my hair with a straighten comb and the way she handled it is why so much hair had fallen out. I just wanted you guys to know since I am bored. That's another reason I love being natural is because no matter how much little strands of hair falls out, the thickest of my natural hair covers it back up. My hair did grow with the micros though!!

Never say never but I'm not sure I'll ever get kinky twists again. I love them but it seems like no matter how loose they appear, they pull my hair out.
Like you said, thank God I have thick hair to cover it up.,,,
From Now on, I'll twist up my own hair!!
Argh

I know that's right!!! Grrrr ...
Re: Whoaaa - No more extensions for me for a while. Atleast not by the Africans
Wow!! I haven't ever had Micros but I have had braids twice before and they never straightened my hair first. They weren't African either though. It seems like straightening the hair would make it harder for the braids to stay in cuz the hair is too slick. I don't think I'll ever get braids at all anymore. The last time I got them (like 2000ish) they slipped out of my hair cuz my hair is too soft. The WHOLE back row just slid out!!! I was mad as hell too cuz I paid like $260 for em!!! SMH NEVER again!!!!! Hope you didn't lose too much hair!!

Then I can never understand why they make it so tight that you can't sleep for days!!! Yeah- I will never have those African ladies braid my hair....

Lol @misskris Yeah, I still have a whole bunch of hair left lol ... my default is how my hair looked after taking the braids out with some product. They straighten it so that the hair wouldn't look so frizzy since with permed hair that's why they look so neat and fresh but mines didn't stay in no time. Some of mines came out after I washed it a couple of times.
@fanmnatirel yeah, I am trying to find a hair style for Christmas and I don't want braids. I am thinking about getting the coils done by a naturalists.

lol ... I still have my edges ... but I had no problem with tightness ... I think they may be the only reason I wont go back to her because she didn't do them tight enough. #weird

Re: Whoaaa - No more extensions for me for a while. Atleast not by the Africans
funny thing is.....ALOT of ppl go to the africans to get their micros, kinkys, box braids, cornrows, whatever done and come out w/ a ate up hairline and hair coming out in clumps and just to think, i've thought about going to them a while back, but nevr did ; thank god for them i didn't; they don't even have a license (alot of them) and just like some chinese nail shops, they don't want to fix anything for you or correct anything and don't take responsibility for anything they do; i think alot of these shops should be shut down until they go to school and know more about hair cause it's ridiculous how many ppl suffer after going to these places, but then again, nobody put a gun to their heads and said go there either~
@rayray19...now u know that make no sense.smh

Yeah, I thought they did make something where if they didn't have licenses that they would be shut down anyway but I guess not. I was thinking about going to her and letting her know that minds were sliding out but I didn't.
Re: Whoaaa - No more extensions for me for a while. Atleast not by the Africans
Jeez, I've never heard of such. I've been going to African braiders at a shop for 8 yrs and they never braid tight and they never straighten anyones hair. That's horrible. They don't know what they're doing.

@ Indidiiamond. I actually saw something on the news a couple weeks ago either here in Atlanta or in NC where my mom lives, that the were all gonna have to get their licences. This one lady had made a complaint because one or her braids fell out including her hair!!!! So she just had this bald patch with a nasty looking wound. It was something about the lady who was braiding her har may have scratched her with her raggedy finger nail and it got infected. It was so nasty. But I agree. They all need to be licensed. And that is why I don't ever get my nails done, I do my OWN!!! I go to them to get my eyebrows waxed but that's it.

@Renny Yep
@Indidiiamond I knew I wasn't the only one who heard it!!!

My co-worker just got 2 layer cornrows and the she didn't have that much individuals in the back and she was charged $120 and she said she couldn't even sleep Fri night.. I told her to go back and see if she would not braid that particular area so tight.. She said I will just take them out.. It was just one area.. I never knew it cost that much for cornrows so micros and other braid must be at least $300

Oh lawd - scratched with a nasty finger nail. I can't take it anymore. That made me sick.
I was going to get Kinky Twist to protective style, but I didn't want the weight of the braids pulling on my hair, it's fine and now that I'm natural I actually care about it, but y'all are making me never get them again. I am so grossed out.

Letha - cornrows are like $120 to $140 where I used to go. Kinky Twist are $160, single braids are $180 and micros are $220-$250 depending on the hair and stuff. I think the cheapest thing they do is goddess braids for $100.
Re: Whoaaa - No more extensions for me for a while. Atleast not by the Africans
When I lived in ATL micros cost $250.00 and this was oh lets say 11 years ago; here where I live now in DFW at this one shop they start off at $130.00 (bigger size) on up. Both places not including the hair (you must pay for that separately). In PA where my brother lives my niece got her micros for $100 including the hair. I think it just depends where you stay, I've learned to do my own kinky twists for the ridiculous pricing reasons.letha wrote:My co-worker just got 2 layer cornrows and the she didn't have that much individuals in the back and she was charged $120 and she said she couldn't even sleep Fri night.. I stopped getting micro braids years ago for that very reason! I used to get them all the time, and aside from a little shedding, my hair was fine. The final time I got them done, the braids were either too tight or not done properly, but my hair fell out and I had to wind up cutting 4" of my hair off. Since then I swore them off. I'll learn how to do my own braids before I let them braid my hair again, smh.

@misskris....yea alot of ppl aren't aware of what's going on and how much regret u can have from going to get ur hair braided by an african. i guess certain schools are gonna come up w/ some type of natural hair program for ppl that just want to braid hair so they can have some kind of certificate or something and learn more about hair b/c these ones braiding hair now, alot of them will fix u up quick and i DON'T mean that in a good way~
