Why is 'hand in hair' a bad thing
Ladies, please educate me. I have read 'hand in hair' is not good for my tresses but I dont know why. I mean I think I have finally gotten the hang of taking care of my hair and I have had some successful treatments that have left my hair so touchably soft the I cant keep my hands out of it...having a serious hair affair right now and if loving her is wrong I dont want to be right.

Hahaha!! Hi Msoverproof. I have heard that too. It think it's bad because too much manipulation of the hair can leave it in tangles, which can lead to split ends/damaged hair. I dunno but it may also leave it dry. I have a SERIOUS problem w/HIH but mine also involves pulling at it and pulling hair OUT!!!!! I think that has a name too!! So lately I have been keeping it up in twists as I would only pull at t when it's in its natural curly state....weird huh??? LOL do a search of HIH or hand in hair in the search box and see what others may have said about it.

Thanks for the great links. The last one was the most informative and I feel like most of the ladies who responded. I aint gonna fight it, I really just love the feel of my hair. Plus the very thought of not touching made me want to touch it even more. OMG I have kink addiction!!

misskris-if you are pulling at your hair and pulling it out you may have a condition that might need treatment. It is called "trichotillomania". I know, the name sounds nuts and i hate that it has the "mania" part at the end of it. I know a few people with this condition and all have sought treatment for it.
Maybe a google search can give you some more info.
I do know that there are support groups out there for people with "trich", AND I can also tell you that a large percentage of people with "trich" are African American women.

Re: Why is 'hand in hair' a bad thing
!!! Thanks Chyna but I don't need treatment. I knew it was tricho something. I was a psych major and amd a counselor. I don't have issues with it like that!!! LOL In fact I have been really good at not pulling at all lately, due to the twists. So it's a good thing I have been keeping them up. Again, I only used to pull the hair out at the knots, not like whole clumps of hair or anything like that. Just where the knots on the end would form, and it would really get on my nerves.
Re: Why is 'hand in hair' a bad thing
Back again, so my hand in my hair is giving some serious feedback. My winter hair is SEVERELY DRY and not sure why. Only just started feeling this way two weeks ago. I havent done anything different that I can recall. Any suggestions. Here is my regime:
Prewash oil treatment
Cowashing with Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine or Trader Joes Nourish Spa
Deep Condition with Jessie Curl
Every two weeks I do an Amla treatment
Daily maintenance retwisting my twists and wearing my hair in a twist out to work.
