For Colored Girls...
For Colored Girls was #3 at the box office this weekend. I have heard mixed reviews from movie goers. . . Some ppl said that its not a true depletion of blk womanhood and others are or know someone like one of the women in the movie... I personally can relate to at least one of the characters. What did you all think?
Re: For Colored Girls...
I saw it last night and thought the acting was superb. Although there were many storylines, it was easy to follow. I loved how poetry was used to share the women's pains, thoughts, inner battles, frustrations, etc. I give it out of 5 .

I think a lot of ppl are rating to movie before doing the background research. This story has been around since the 1970s. The reviews should only state whether or not the move version stuck to the original written version or the Broadway play version. Sadly, I have come across quite a few ppl that think Tyler Perry wrote the movie.

I agree the acting was AWESOME! Tho i'm curious to know how Mariah Carey would have done as Tangie since she was person originally casted for the part. but thats something i'll never know. . .

technically, he did write the screenplay, but he included poetry from the original author.
i thought the movie was pretty good. i only read a bit of the play (and only briefly skimmed through it, at that), but i think it stayed true to the original one. idk. i just remember reading the part about the teenager talking about having sex with that guy after prom =P i'm definitely gonna check out the book from my school library though

I really liked it! You could really feel for those women, and I think the characters transcend race and all women can identify with them in some way. I've been meaning to read the original work for a while...but every time I try to check it out from the library, it's taken! I might just break down and buy it.
Besides "Why Did I Get Married?", and "Daddy's Girls", this is the only other Tyler Perry film I really liked. Madea just rubs me the wrong way. So formulaic. Ick.

He wrote in one character (Hill Harper) but for the most part the screenplay was adapted. One thing I really like about anything Tyler Perry touches is his ability to draw crowds and attract attention. No one would even be discussing the original work right now if it wasn't for his name all over the film. Now I need him to do something related to the health and social problems of the overall population (the health educator is coming out of me, LOL).
