How Do You Clip Split Ends?

My ends are in dire need of a clipping because I have split ends. How do you guys clip your ends? Do you allow others to straighten your hair then clip or do you allow others to cut it while its wet? I really dont want to get my hair straighten because of concerns of heat damage but is seems to be the only way of clipping hair. I need suggestions.
