I don't want my curls to loosen
Ok so I'm currently recovering from heat damage. I want to try henna but don't want to have my curls loosened. I've heard you can mix it with Amla. As anyone tried this and with what results?

Re: I don't want my curls to loosen
The loosening effect of henna is a temporary one for me. My hair is a 4a with a small section of 3c-. I think you should be ok. I have mixed my henna with amla and didnt really see much of a difference.
Re: I don't want my curls to loosen
I actually don't experience any loosening of my curls when I use henna. They are more defined and softer, though.
Re: I don't want my curls to loosen
I have experienced a loosening of my curls at the top of my head the most. I make sure to apply it to that area last or not at all or just to the ends
Re: I don't want my curls to loosen
Thanks for the responses. So if you only apply to the ends how does that affect the overall color? Also is the curl loosening permanent or temporary?

Would using cassia give the loosening effects as well? I don't want the loosening effects either by using henna. Not sure if the cassia does this or not.

Re: I don't want my curls to loosen
i have had persons tell me that cassia loosens curl a bit also.. but if your hair is type 4, this is usually temporary -- 2washes and it will be bouncing back
wiry, more coily types (type 3-ish) seem to be the ones that are having this issue. Shikakai and amla powders, along with ACV rinses seem to help counteract that. Add 1-tbs of any of these powders to your henna and you should be alright. Also make sure to restore moisture to your hair in the days following henna. Virgin henna applications (never used henna before) seem to be drier than subsequent ones, so I would be sure to cowash several times after rinsing or so a nice deep conditioning afterwards.
happy henna!
