Crown and Glory Challengers anyone?
Hello Ladies!
I have been reading and researching the Crown and Glory method of growing out my TWA and I would like to start this challenge August 1. Here is the link that explains the method in more detail. Warning: The web site can be a little confusing, so I will try to help out with as many questions as you may have. When you enter the link, you will find a lot of testimonies and gallery documentation of women charting their growth.
http://www.growafrohairlong.com/ -- From here click "The Crown and Glory Technique" and across the top of the page you will see a variety of headings on taking care of your hair in different settings.
I am going to do the braid extensions regimen posted in detail here http://www.growafrohairlong.com/braidreg.html. You can also do the wig or weave regimen if that is more to your liking. I will be starting school in August and still working and being mom and wife. So I would like to take care of my hair in the process and protect it this winter so that it's priority is just to "be moisturized and grow". This week I am going to the salon to schedule my kinky twists install for the end of this month. She posts a "how to braid" video, but I recently tried them myself and they slid off and I used too much product, I will let someone else tackle it.
She gives specific instructions on her method of growing the hair out by leaving the extensions in for only 2 months at a time. Her regimen includes: Lekair Cholesterol Plus for deep conditioning, Infusium 23 for hair strength and African Pride braid spray or a braid spray without oil.
I like what I saw here and I'm ready to "style and grow". Any takers?
We can post before pics in the coming weeks and then once we kick off on August 1st, come back and post ending results by October 15th. If we're satisfied, we can start again by November 1st.

Welcome CombatCurls! Sure, post your regimen. I am going to use the one suggested by Robin on Crown & Glory method. However, I know there are variations that work for others, so by all means- share yours. I'm excited, I called the salon today and will go by at lunch tomorrow to schedule and let them see if my hair is long enough to work this style.

I would love to do this challenge. But what about kinky twists? Do they count? I've only had my real hair braided w/o extensions. I'm not sure how braids will work on my edges but I know that the kinky twists didn't hurt them at all.

I know I was the same way, but the braid regimen is pretty clear cut. I think there are so many statements about the fake websites and the real one and advertisements about the products on the first page, it jumbles the actual site.
Preciouslady:
Welcome aboard! Yes, kinky twists are fine, that's what I'll be rocking if my hair is long enough. Perfect timing too, the salon I'm going to just sent me a $25 off coupon for this month. Yeah buddy! I can't wait.

Re: Crown and Glory Challengers anyone?
Great! I had my first set of kinky twists when my hair was only about 1- 1 1/2 inches maybe. Your hair looks long enough. I went to an african salon and to my surprise they caught my hair and it wasn't extremely tight either! That will be great for me because my school schedule for the fall (which starts in Aug.) is no joke! Too bad I don't have a coupon, but oh well. That will be right on time for me and I was just thinking about getting twists. It will take me right up to my 1yr. So hopefully I'm able to achieve my 6inches!

Hey Karameldiva, this was a great idea for a challenge! I'd like to join. I'm wearing short wigs to give my hair a break from all the constant manipulation that I was doing to it. I might even get a weave at some point. How long are we going to keep the challenge going?
I've been to the website before and it is very confusing, but I just stick to the links at the top of the page.

Re: Crown and Glory Challengers anyone?
I would like to join this challenge using the wig regimen. That kanekalon hair always makes my head itch, so extensions are out.

Latoya & Alanija,
Welcome aboard! We are doing the challenge for two months and then posting progress mid-October. If for some reason my braids fall through, I'll be wiggin it also! But for two months, it has to be in one of those protective styles.
Here we grow!

Hey Karameldiva, I would like to join this challenge as well!! I will be "wigging it" for the most part, but if that get's old then I will do some kinky twists. I actually started this weekend, but my hair is currently cornrowed to leave under my wig so I will take pics and post my regi sometime this weekend, when I take my braids out to redo them.

Mstokes2008 come on in, you're more than welcomed! Wigs are going to be great protective styling for the cold, winter wind & dryness.
I wore super cute wig on yesterday (spiral curls & highlights) and realized how much I missed versatility. I have enjoyed this TWA, but I know when I get more length I will enjoy it much more. I went to the salon today and I'm scheduled for next Saturday morning b/c I have to work this Saturday and they like to start braids by 9 am. I can't wait!! I can rock all my hair candy that is currently awaiting more natural hair length.
Let's get it ladies! Operation = Growth!

Sign me up!
I was going to do the regimen on my own, but it's always better with some partners! I just had my kinky twists put in today.
I'm not really sure how to measure my hair. It is quite a few different lengths. I just combed out my 10-year-old locks about a month ago, and my hair is a few different lengths, but I'd have to do a BC if I wanted it all to be uniform length, so I'm opting for braids to give the short spots a chance to "catch up " because I'm not personally ready for a BC. Most of my hair is about shoulder length. Two short spots are only about an inch long (We broke the off when combing out the dreads).
I've been natural for 15 years. I gave myself a couple of deep conditioners leading up to the braid, so I'm ready to roll. My braider told me the hair is healthy.
Here is a pic of where I am now https://i.servimg.com/u/f31/15/41/41/01/newdo712.jpg

I'm Down!!!
Yay, I finally found a challenge that I can participate in. I've been wearing extension braids since July 3rd as a protective style since its so hot in Miami. I don't know how to post pictures (I've tried countless times, LOL) so I can't really show more progress. I'm going to leave these in until Labor Day weekend, which is also my birthday weekend. This will be my 1st birthday All-Natural so I must do it real GROWN and SEXY!!! I'm super excited for this challenge and ready to start growing. I also went wig shopping so I'm excited about that too because I've never wore a wig before.

Re: Crown and Glory Challengers anyone?
I'd like to join! I plan on putting senegalese twists in my hair. I did some for the month of June and I plan on putting them back in the end of this month. I've never kept my hair braided for more than 4 to 6 weeks, so this will be challenging for me. I'll be back to post pics! I can't wait!
Re: Crown and Glory Challengers anyone?
I have a question about moisturizing my hair while it's in the twists. The site says to be careful not to put too much on your scalp, lest you have buildup. I was wondering about spraying the rest of the twist. My braider used very little hair because I wanted to keep the braids fair light on my head (and fairly short). I think she finished my whole head only using about one pack of marley braid.
In some of the twists my hair comes all the way down to the end (about shoulder length). Should I be spraying that part of the braid daily for moisture?

Welcome Nebula! You have a really good length and its curly and still good length. Unless the damage was severe in several areas, I would NOT BC either. I would give those areas a little TLC and they'll catch up in no time. As for the measuring, I've seen people break it down into sections - sides, nape and top lengths and they have been different lengths for others as well. Congrats on continuing your natural journey!

Welcome Blackricangirl! Now, about the pictures, where are you uploading your pics to? Photobucket? Or another free photo site? My brain is failing me, I can't remember the names of the others I have used. Maybe someone else on here can help you. Of course you can always go to the pics link on here. Perfect, Labor Day will make 2 months! By then, we'll help you post pics, you'll be excited to see that progress. Wigs are my backup in between braids also!

Come on in Mom2KurlyT! I'm with you on the not keeping in braids longer than 4 to 6 weeks. This will be a CHALLENGE to me as well. However, I think what will help is getting the perimeter rebraided at 5 weeks. As long as I know my hair is healthy and growing out, I'll be fine. Can't wait to see your pics!

I would spray to the ends so that you retain your length. Keep your ends healthy and from splitting or having to be trimmed. HTH!

Re: Crown and Glory Challengers anyone?
I would love to partcipate! currently wearing twist extensions. some of my hair is the same length as the extensions. I'm using extensions because my hair is still a bit thin due to the last relaxer I got which was 1 1/2 years ago. My edges are still a bit thin also from the last relaxer i will ever use. i'm excited to see how my hair grows and it will be easy because i started using henna for strength. Count me in!!! I do not and cannot figure out how to post pics. Do i have to post to join the challenge?

Dawn1980, welcome aboard! Twist extensions are definitely acceptable. I would love to know how you're using the henna, b/c I want to keep my hair strengthened in braids also.
Ladies,
For those of you asking about posting pictures, here are CurlyNikki's instructions on posting pictures, just try it, its really quite simple. I am adding more specific instructions to make it a bit clearer.
For some reason, I can't copy and paste, so I'm writing the directions step by step.
1.) When you click on "New Topic" or "Post Reply" you will have several options cross the top of your typing box. They are Bold, Italics, Underline, Quote, code and Host an Image (an icon with a picture and a disk in front of it).
2.) Click Host an Image: It will pop up a box that allows you to browse for pictures/images on your computer. Once you have chosen your image, click open (then host in the pop up box) and the pop up box will put the image into three code options: Thumbnail, Image, and Image URL.
3.) Copy the second code for "Image". Paste it into your typing box where you would like the picture to appear.
4.) To make the box disappear, click the icon for "Host an Image" again and it goes away.
That's it, your picture should appear in a large enough size that clickable and viewable.
Yes, ladies, you do need to upload a picture to join because your inspiration comes from seeing where you started to what your results have yielded. It will give us motivation when we feel frustrated b/c its just not enough length yet.
Your picture can be a current pic in your avatar. If you are already in braids or wig styling, post a pic if you have one no older than one month prior to your protective style. That will still show good results at the end of 2 months.

I've only had my twists in about a week, but my head is itching like crazy. I have the African Pride braid spray. I wonder if I'm using too much moisturizer (I know I can be a bit heavy handed with products) LOL.

I don't know about you ladies but I'm ready for these 2 months to be over so I can see my hair again. What have you ladies been doing with your hair with the braids/twist?
Last night I oiled my scalp with EVOO and Castor Oil. And I've been doing some cute little styles (I'll show them when I learn how to upload pics,LOL) and at night I still sleep with my satin bonnet.

Oh no Nebula! Yes, that's too much product. Unless you're allergic to the hair, maybe? I will have to "train" myself too on being much more light handed with the products. I want to keep my braids in the full 2 months without a lot of product build up.
BlackRican girl,
One other thing, I upload my pics to Photobucket, then copy and paste the image code from there. My pics post smaller, but I can post them with no problem. I hope one of the two options works for you.
I was just about to post this and you beat me to it with your pic!!! Your hair is beautiful!!! YYYYAAAAYYYYY, I'm glad it worked for you!!!
