Re: Hair Powders
I make a paste with the powder versions of them using water. After a few uses, I started to add oils and conditioners to them.Brainiac wrote:How do u use them? Do you massage in with your shampoo or massage in daily?
You can also make a tea with them by steeping them in water. I suggest a ratio of two to one (two parts powder to one parts water). I use the tea as a rinse and refresh my hair.

@ChrsLvsBks: I'm curious about using the powders in conditioner. Do you think it's just as effective as using it with just water as a paste?
Re: Hair Powders
Yes, I do. I suggest mixing the powder(s) with water/tea first then adding in the conditioner. I tried mixing the powders with conditioners and it became real thick and goopy [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] .s4pphir3 wrote:@ChrsLvsBks: I'm curious about using the powders in conditioner. Re: Hair Powders
Amla stops the shedding and thickens the hair. I mix Amla, Brahmi and Maka with hot water into a paste and leave that to set for 15 minutes. I then apply it to freshly shampooed hair coated with Black Jamaican castor oil. I leave it on for 1-3 hours while I'm doing housework. I then wash out with a quick shampoo to remove any particles, and then apply my Aussie Moist conditioner for a minute, then rinse out and style.
I mixed the powders with a small amount of conditioner before and applied it to my hair, but when I went back a week later to the mix it smelled something horrible. I won't do that again. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Great thanks I may try that this weekend!
Re: Hair Powders
Ok one more question. For you ladies that make a paste .. I usually mix 1-2 tablespoons of the powders m using, for example 1 tbs of shikakai and 2 tbs of amla .. When I add water even a 1/2 cup makes it too liquidy. How much do you mix when making a paste? TIA.

Re: Hair Powders
The amount of mix depends on how much hair you have....I use 1/2cup a box of amla and brahmi each, plus 1/4cup of coconut cream, and water...then I mix....add a few oils....I honestly never measure. I am just guessing right now. I am also heavy handed with all products.
Re: Hair Powders
I don't usually measure either. I usually put the powders in the bowl and slowly add water and stir until I get the paste-like consistency. If it gets too watery, you can add more powder. If you have some left over, you can freeze it for later.

Re: Hair Powders
The portion used does depend on the amount of hair you have. I have never measured when I make a paste. I always mix until it is the consistency of cake batter. If it is too liquidy just add more powder to your mixture.
Re: Hair Powders
Oh ok. Thanks ladies for the replies. I assumed from what I've read that you shouldn't use anymore than 1 or 2 tbs. because it was so drying. I was following Candy C's regimen for a while but I wasn't sure if I was doing it properly. 1-2 tbs and a half a cup of water just wasn't enough for me. Can't wait to try it this weekend
