Flaxseed Gel
I have recently found DIY recipe for defining curls.
Pros: Great curl definition, does not dry out hair, simple to make, no residue, no added chemicals
Cons: suppose to only last a week in the refrigerator( going to try adding a perservative), can be messy if you cook to long, kind of looks link snot(sp?)
Overall, I wanted to share this to help out anyone who likes to make their own products and still looking for a great, inexpensive, natural way to define curls.
Good for wash and go and twists/twistouts
I have also added a some of this gel to my whippped shea butter to help define my curls, while sealing in the moisture. ( good non-greasy moisture)
My recipe:
Boil unitil a white frothy gel forms on the top( be careful not to let it gel completey or else it will be hard to strain)
1 cup water
1/4 cup whole flax seed( find these at your grocery/ health food stores)
Strain into a bowl and add:(this is my choice, but you can do different) These are approximate measure since I just pour until I fill comfortable(lol)
Aloe vera Gel(1tbsp moisture)
Vegetable glycerine (tsp humectant)
Jojoba Oil
Tea tree oil (2-3 drops: perservative)
Essential Oil (2-3 drops for fragrance)

Re: Flaxseed Gel
I typically make this in the summer for my WnGs and I love it! Where do you get your glycerine from?

Whole foods. What do you put in your mixture?

Re: Flaxseed Gel
I made my own two months ago, love it, its good for the pockets, nice soft hold, keeps hair vey moist, and also defines curls. It's a keeper for wash-n-go's. Please make sure to keep it in the fridge. It reminds me of KCC. I added butter cream icing fragrant oil, smell just like KCC. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I add aloe vera gel and evoo to mine. I used to add more but I found that keeping it simple works best for me.
Re: Flaxseed Gel
Just started a blog full of natural hair and skin care recipes like this one.
I made a curly pudding using the flaxseed gel and shea butter.
